Good start to the business world

Credit Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at Zions Bank full-time for less than a year

ProsExperience is relevant, lots of experience within management, the employees in the department are in the same life stage, everyone knows Zions Bank. Almost never worked more than 40 hours. M-F

ConsThe health insurance could be better (high-deductible), the tuition reimbursement program is for MBAs and requires a payback period.

Backward and dull place to work

Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
Salt Lake City, UT

I have been working at Zions Bank full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe schedule is generally 8 hours a day. There are some genuinely nice and professional people who work there.

ConsThe pay was below average. The medical insurance was expensive and the coverage was poor (high-deductible plan). The technology, such as Microsoft Office, was several versions behind. The culture was uninspiring and did not encourage innovation or improvement. I heard sexist jokes and comments from some of the older male managers who seemed oblivious to how inappropriate their behavior was.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpgrade your technology. Offer competitive pay and benefits. Weed out bad managers.

Too many inflexible silos.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Zions Bank full-time for more than 10 years

ProsLot of good people but several of the executive officers are incompetent.

ConsManagement is out of touch. Relatives of Holding Company's CEO are not held accountable for disastrous job performance. Executive officers don't want to be confronted when their performance is poor and don't have any enforced expectations to change their behavior.

Advice to Senior ManagementUse of complaint system is used in an absolute vacuum without any competent management discernment.

Great people and partnerships

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Zions Bank full-time for more than 5 years

ProsZions Banks is a great place for it's people to build lasting business partnerships. The organization is a good place for "corporate entrepreneurs". Zions Bank "feels" like a community bank, but has most of the resources of a larger institution.

ConsToo often managers are brought in from the outside and tend to be out of touch with the organization's culture and capabilities. Technology is really behind the times. The structure of Zions Bancorporation as "A Collection of Great Banks", running somewhat autonomously makes for much innefficiency. The back office help in Salt Lake City is not always the most helpful and is out of touch with the market place and needs of rural clients/employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to and implement the advice of the front-line employees.

Great culture with opportunities to grow in the financial industry

Personal Banking (Current Employee)
Salt Lake City, UT

I have been working at Zions Bank full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat co-workers
gain basic understanding of financial industry
great learning and development program

ConsNot a lot of opportunities to advance in retail banking. Limited management jobs with lots of good qualified applicants.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep encouraging growth and development in employees, cross training is good for the bank.

Product Manager

Product Manager (Current Employee)
Salt Lake City, UT

I have been working at Zions Bank full-time for more than a year

ProsFlexible work schedule and hours, bank holidays, and competitive pay. I'm on a well-assembled team who really enjoy working together, that really makes all the difference. Extremely competent executive management.

ConsHealth insurance is quite weak compared to other employers that I've worked for. Like most companies, there can be a good amount of political back-biting that goes on, but you just need to tell yourself to rise above it.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage greater cohesiveness and collaboration within and between departments. Zions has some greater competitive advantages in its footprint that can lead to some great growth in the future.
