    Discount on zipcars to use personally, laid back culture with very friendly employees and very visible management.

    Cons

    Difficult growth phase they had going on, lots of contracted help and turnover at the time

    Pros

    Great team of very talented people here. Most seem to enjoy what they do which makes the culture very enjoyable.

    Cons

    Pay seems lower than what some of my contemporaries make in similar industries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do a better job of truly listening to the customer, they'll tell you what you need to do to earn and keep their business. Listen to the staff as well, they'll tell you what to do to make this an even better place to work.

    I have been working at Zipcar full-time

    Pros

    Great location. Fort point is one of the best neighborhoods in Boston to work.
    Smart people. The brand and compensation allows them to attract smart people. The problem is keeping them there.
    Good compensation. The engineering department has been through a lot of change and I think the management team realizes they need to hire smart experienced people to rebuild.
    Great product. Zipcar is cool and you really do have a chance to make it even better.
    Good culture. There is still change coming - some people need to leave, others need to step up and take ownership, but at the core is a bunch of young people who want to do good work.

    Cons

    Old technology. We are working hard to address it but Zipcar is still running on severely outdated tech.
    Organizational disfunction. Product and engineering don't feel in sync, period. The engineering department is not well organized. Getting stuff done with ops can be very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    A lot of your problems are people problems that at preventing people from doing good work. Seek to further empower individuals and break down barriers to progress at all costs. Hire for a vp of technology and empower them to make aggressive change.

    Pros

    My colleagues were smart and innovative. It was hip and fun and people were always interested in hearing about it.

    Cons

    Compensation was confusing and changed frequently. Senior management rarely listened to those dealing with customers so executive decisions were often misguided.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management has changed since I worked there as it was bought by Avis. My former colleagues tell me that it is not the fun, hip company it used to be. It is now just another rental car company. Advice would be to go back to Zipcar's roots and put some former employees in more senior roles. They have the history and know what they are doing. Also, bring back the fun cars.

    I have been working at Zipcar part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    I really enjoyed working for Zipcar as a Brand Ambassador. Everyone in the office was helpful and friendly and the Street Team as also very friendly. Got to attend a lot of fun and interesting events and got to meet a lot of really cool people while talking about Zipcar. As a Brand Ambassador it was a great position transition position for many looking for other jobs or trying to figure out what they wanted to do in life. The manager's understood that and are very supportive of those that move on to other jobs outside of Zipcar. (Also great Zipcar discount!)

    Cons

    Not a lot of room for growth; if you really wanted to move up into a serious position in the company you need to move to Boston. Very little positions come open in the remote offices.

    Pros

    I was given a lot of autonomy and was able to use out of the box recruiting methods. They also valued my opinion on candidates. I loved the hiring managers that I worked for. They were innovative strategic thinkers.

    Cons

    They were a few changes in HR while I was there. The transition was difficult and many things were not communicated properly to the recruiters. Things also changed after the ABG acquisition. Many employers were worried about the brand being lost.

    Try to keep the brand!!!
