    Unique place to work

Senior Game Designer (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsGood pay, good benefits, excellent culinary department, but most of all great people.

ConsYou need to have an intense interest in social games. It's also still mostly driven by metrics and needs more emphasis on good game design.

    Hard working, hungry, ambitious company

General Manager (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsGreat, high quality, highly motivated and straight-shooting folks
The Zynga spirit drives the company to be successful and pushes through challenging times
The constant quest on how to be more successful, make better games, increase value for our players
    Yes, the food is amazing

ConsThe outside reputation and perception of Zynga are at least one year behind the reality of the current culture, which I have found very positive.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep building up a more game development centric culture

    Favorite Job

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) New York, NY

Pros- great compensation and perks (free lunch/dinner, bonuses, gym, etc.)
    - work has effect on the culture at large given huge audience; feel like you have a voice
    - though it can vary by team, people are friendly and smart
    - making games is more enjoyable than most other types of software development
    - lots of exposure to new technologies / learn a lot

Cons- can be long hours and weekends, esp. around game launches
    - can involve travel at times
    - stock is struggling, and aforementioned perks+compensation a bit dialed back as a result
    - job security can be an issue if a game is not successful (though that is less the case for engineers)

Advice to Senior ManagementFind better ways to support innovation. Where's Zynga's Angry Birds / Bejeweled / Mario Bros. / etc. i.e. brilliant, original classic game?

    Zynga staffing and recruiting

Technical Recruiter (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsGreat place to try new methods of recruiting. Stress but good kind of stress. Stress to achieve not micromanagement version of stress. Great people to work with. Everyone out to help one another. Don't need to watch your back. It's easy to recruit for a company doing super well. This company has its challenges and therefore makes you a better recruiter. Managers and engineers are very talented. They keep the bar high even during tough times which is good. New engineers are guaranteed a challenging work environment with lots to learn even if you're a senior recruiter or engineer.

ConsContractors not treated like equal. Not a big deal but sometimes inhibits your ability to do a good job on behalf of the client. Company only hires recruiters as contract-to-hire which limits their ability to hire top recruiters.
