I worked at Zynga full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Incredible amount of drive, intellectual horsepower and fun co workers.
-We had an insatiable appetite to win and learn as much as we could.
-Company felt like it operated in a unified front for many years
    -Quarterly rewards/recognition
-incredibly talented culinary team & holistic health care services
-Transparent CEO (at the time Mark) who had a passion for people and the product
-Very approachable and personable leadership team
-We worked long hours for something we believed in (the sweatshop comments are hilarious). No one forces you to work long hours. If you can cultivate an environment where people truly care and put in the amount of effort - it's a pro in my book.
-Some of the smartest most down to earth folks you can work with in the valley

    Cons

-We were trailblazing an industry with social games and there was a lot changes in that drop of a dime
-We could have done earlier training/dev of management to prepare for the rapid growth
-No sophisticated system in place to track how often comp wasn't reviewed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on the people that have maintained focus and dedication to the product. We are all still rooting for you!

I worked at Zynga as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The people at Zynga come in all kinds, they are fun and willing to help you get your groove as soon as possible.

There is endless amounts of food and snacks, and its always changing so you'll always be trying out new things.

Dogs! There are dogs everywhere, if you are an employee and you have a dog, remember, its bring your dog to work day everyday.

    Cons

Some of the users that we would get just wouldn't make our job easier, even though most of the people at Zynga are great, there are always those that just only care about themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers are supposed to make decisions for you, but there can be some that make the decisions that their employees will not agree with. Make sure that the problem you are trying to fix is something that bothers everyone else, not just you.

I have been working at Zynga full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, excellent culinary department, but most of all great people.

    Cons

You need to have an intense interest in social games. It's also still mostly driven by metrics and needs more emphasis on good game design.

I worked at Zynga as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Work with highly intelligent people on interesting mobile development problems. Also, they have free food and gym membership!

    Cons

The reputation of their games is pretty bad, so everyone made fun of me for working there. They made fun of me even more for enjoying it. Also, because of this reputation (and the poor market value of the company) moral was super low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make some games that aren't just money hungry. Make some games that the employees can be proud of. Don't just fast follow, make real new and innovative games.

I have been working at Zynga full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great, high quality, highly motivated and straight-shooting folks
The Zynga spirit drives the company to be successful and pushes through challenging times
The constant quest on how to be more successful, make better games, increase value for our players
    Yes, the food is amazing

    Cons

The outside reputation and perception of Zynga are at least one year behind the reality of the current culture, which I have found very positive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep building up a more game development centric culture
Push to hire the best talents

Current Employee - Technical Recruiter in San Francisco, CA

I have been working at Zynga as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to try new methods of recruiting. Stress but good kind of stress. Stress to achieve not micromanagement version of stress. Great people to work with. Everyone out to help one another. Don't need to watch your back. It's easy to recruit for a company doing super well. This company has its challenges and therefore makes you a better recruiter. Managers and engineers are very talented. They keep the bar high even during tough times which is good. New engineers are guaranteed a challenging work environment with lots to learn even if you're a senior recruiter or engineer.

    Cons

Contractors not treated like equal. Not a big deal but sometimes inhibits your ability to do a good job on behalf of the client. Company only hires recruiters as contract-to-hire which limits their ability to hire top recruiters.

I have been working at Zynga full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - great compensation and perks (free lunch/dinner, bonuses, gym, etc.)
    - work has effect on the culture at large given huge audience; feel like you have a voice
    - though it can vary by team, people are friendly and smart
    - making games is more enjoyable than most other types of software development
    - lots of exposure to new technologies / learn a lot

    Cons

    - can be long hours and weekends, esp. around game launches
    - can involve travel at times
    - stock is struggling, and aforementioned perks+compensation a bit dialed back as a result
    - job security can be an issue if a game is not successful (though that is less the case for engineers)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find better ways to support innovation. Where's Zynga's Angry Birds / Bejeweled / Mario Bros. / etc. i.e. brilliant, original classic game?
