Decent place to work if you have ok team leaders

Footwear Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at adidas Group

Pros-Great discounts on stuff you actually buy.
-Medical and Dental Plan (even though I couldn't afford it).
-Comfortable uniforms (you can wear ANYTHING thats adidas and in season)
-$300 allotment every three months that you can use to purchase your uniform items.
-Cool events where you can meet people in the sporting world including athletes, agents, trainers, etc.
-I had an excellent store manager.

Cons***Management informally ask very much of their employees in terms of staying longer, doing various work that you do not specialize in yet they give absolute 0 in return.***
*** Management can alter their own clockings so that they do not appear to break attendance policy (no checks and balances for them)
-Level of respect toward employees could be better.
-Unreal attendance policy, I would say (realistically) 80% of the starting employees lost their job within the first year because of this.
-It is obvious that the retail department would rather have new hires rather than sustain a veteran work force.
-Human resource department is not efficient
-Large corporation feels distanced from employees.
-I had a very incompetent supervisor.
-I had a regional director who was unknowable of the adidas brand.

Advice to Senior ManagementReform the point system attendance policy.

if u like retail discounts this is the job for you

Marketing Associate (Former Employee)

I worked at adidas Group

ProsThe management and employees are all cool. You deal with a diverse group of people everyday. More importantly you get a generous discount on new merchandise. Some new releases you get for free to promote the brand

Consthe executive management is out of touch with their audience and very incompetent. I had several proposals for marketing events, but it took months for the corporate office to get back with me. Then I would hear of other districts planning huge celebrity events but they always told us there was no budget....wtf?

Advice to Senior Managementpay employees a higher base and add commision. most sales associates sell thousands of dollars of inventory at the retail stores and don't make a dime off of what they sell. Alot of them complained or l\\\\

Overall Review of adidas' Current Climate

Apparel Merchandiser (Current Employee)
Portland, OR

I have been working at adidas Group

ProsWhen I started at adidas, I was drawn to the casual atmosphere and the fun people who made up the employee force. This is still true today. The company also offers a great benfits package, a 401(k) which they will match up to a certain extent, and ample FTO (Free TIme Off) Days. A starting employee has 1 week a quarter, plus a free floating holiday.

ConsCareer advancement can be tough. When jobs become available, they are not always fairly posted for everyone to know they are open. People are not always given the chance they should be and positions will just mysteriously get filled with someone the hiring manager already knows. Also, starting salaries are low, and raises are extremely tough to get.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe as loyal and supportive to your employees as they have been to you and reward them financially.

Treat your people good or they will go to the swoosh

Product Merchandiser (Current Employee)

Prosfun enviorment. get to wear sports clothes to work in.

ConsA lot of mgmt does not care about job. They do a poor job promoting within the company. nike is just a few miles away so alot of people switch between the two companies often. Nike generally pays better.

Advice to Senior Managementtake care of the people that make your bonuses for you

Good company.

Marketing Associate (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at adidas Group

ProsIt is a fun enviornment to be in. you get to travel around and meet new people constantly. there are many opportunitities to maybe sometimes get into things you would not have gotten into. you get paid a good amount of money for some working at hard times. You do get paid a good amount of money for being in school so that was a plus. i enjoyed doing some new things and people seemed to really enjoy hearing about the adidas products and i had a good time wearing free adidas gear. i really liked being my own boss per se.

Consthis would be a great place to work as an internship because it is only a weekend gig. everyone is trained properly on site and adidas will provide you with a place to stay if needed as well as travel arrangements. it is my understanding that they are headquartered in new york and they give you free stuff constantly when working on new missions. some gigs may be a little lame as you may be handing out fliers or just simply selling shoes to put it simply. you may also feel obligated to only choose adidas clothing and shoes ok?

Advice to Senior ManagementThey are awesome

Tough place unless you are German

Marketing Manager (Former Employee)
Portland, OR

I worked at adidas Group

ProsNice campus in an improving neighborhood near downtown Portland. Plenty of parking. Good gym. Cool products. Energetic, fun colleagues. Lots of perks from other companies that market with adidas. Access to steeply discounted product at the retail stores and outlets. Opportunities to travel around the globe. Discounted or free tix to sporting events.

ConsIf you are ambitious it is really tough to advance beyond Director as an American employee. You'll get blindsided by politics originating in German HQ sooner or later. Below-average pay. Constantly looking up a Nike. Sr. management unwilling to invest in IT, Marketing, Advertising, US endorsements. Totally reactive business strategy.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop having adidas and Reebok compete in all the same sports. Run them as a portfolio of brands.

Was a great place to work, but not right now...maybe one day again.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at adidas Group

ProsGreat discount and opportunities to move around. Great environment to learn in, young dynamic and athletic people. Always on the go.

ConsOnce you're out, you're out of the company. Very hard to get back in. The salaries are low for how much work you do. Location is far away from Nuremberg, need a car or carpool. Their newer policy is to be open and honest and non-political, but they are VERY political and honesty just gets you in trouble and pushed out. VERY process driven, no risk taking, not a place for creativity to thrive. Very conservative and judgmental. No one is happy in their job.
