Former Employee – worked at brighton collectibles full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – At the beginning....discount, perks, trips
Cons – There is no longer any attention paid to the suggestions of the store managers. This is part of what made the company what it is. Standards evaluations that criticize the length of coffee stirs, and the cleanliness of your microwave are ridiculous. They are taking away the caring for the customer and making the managers focus on paperwork and reports. Micromanaging things that don't generate revenue for the stores. It's just sad.
Advice to Senior Management – Trust your managers and stop running off the ones that helped build the business and replacing them with "yes" managers.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at brighton collectibles full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Loved the dedication of the store team and their support under extreme pressure and unrealistic expectations from the Home Office. Compensation for exempt employees is above average for retail
Cons – The expectation is to work through lunch or dinner, at home, on your days off; split shifts - 12 hr shifts, work till 9:30pm on Christmas eve, etc. Micromanaged to death. Company motto is " To keep doing the same thing and expect a different result is Stupidity". They haven't taken their own advice. I once felt this company was generous, kind and philanthropic. The truth is that they are greedy...in every way. They talk about "Good Manners" but really don't practice them with their employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Privately owned....the owner is surrounded by people who say what he wants to hear. The problem is...he likes it that way. Doesn't really want SMART employees.

Current Employee – been working at brighton collectibles full-time
Pros – Progressive thinking in business customer service, true dedication to their product, company and design team. Think outside the box company. Brilliant marketing strategists and certainly a company that does not miss a beat.
Cons – Brighton presents this image of being humanitarians and do gooders donating to multiple charities, but in fact it is a brilliant marketing strategy. They overload their managers and sales partners with so much work and stress. Corporate micromanages everything. For a company that acts like they care about people and causes, they don't take care of their own employees and treat the retail division like the low rung on the totem pole. They deliver their unreasonable expectations with bubbly manipulation to try to motivate their people without actually giving anything, and in fact taking away more and more perks. It is like a cult in some respects. Brighton has a great business concept that values their customers (this may be true) , and employees (questionable). This is the story that hooks you and inspires you. Once inside, not so sure, more more more is their motto and it is never enough. Be a machine and pledge your life to Brighton.
Advice to Senior Management – Loyalty and motivation comes more easily when one feels appreciated, trusted, valued and rewarded. When actions from corporate and management actually mirror the jargon. Expectations are essential to a successful Company, even high expectations, but not unreasonable ones that turn humans into robots that can't keep up with the work load. Add the condescending arrogance from the top tier of corporate management and it is pretty unpleasant.

Current Employee – been working at brighton collectibles part-time for less than a year
Pros – Lots of funto work in retail and most customers were delightful. Most co-workers helpful, but also competitive driven by need to fill quotas which remain high despite economic downturn.
Cons – Store management is short on training and temper
Advice to Senior Management – Successful stores may not be successful places to work for staff. Managers need communication and actual management training. Workers should not have to "deal" with the personality deficits of managers.
