Bleak Environment and Career Outlook for Top-Level company

    Pros

Working for eBay was an inspiring experience, and there are some great people working here.I got to work on some great brands. eBay Enterprise does have a promising future, if they can capitalize on their many technological advantages

    Cons

However, it also has a deplorable leadership team, who has no interest in leading, only sustaining the bureaucracy and keeping the West Coast off their necks. I have rarely seen less professional leaders who are near non-existent to the rank-and-file employees. The virtual HR system is terrible to deal with, and if a staff member has an issue, and I have never seen them side with anyone but management, even in the face of allegations against said leaders.

The buildings housing the marketing teams are anything but inspiring, equipment is dated, and the despite the "Shared Values" mantra, the leaders do not impart a single one of those values to their teams. The culture is "make it work"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close outlying campuses, restructure new biz goals, update work environment, and clean house on most leaders who have been there over two years. They don't believe in eBay's values, and long for a return to the True Action way of doing business. It was demoralizing watching us bring in

    Pros

The pay was great, worked with great people. some ability to work remotely. great name to have on resume

    Cons

Very disorganized with lack of communication between disciplines. The offices are bland and not inspiring. Employees want to work on the new technology, but everything is 5 years in the past. high turn over rate, promotions are rare and career path are hard define.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs an overhaul. Their egos get in the way and often unprofessional and cannot make up their mind on direction, communication between teams and the company needs to be more encouraged. Focus on the employee satisfaction and office culture.

    Pros

Overall there has been vast improvements during my tenure but constant business process changes every 90 days mean everytime you start to get traction and see benefits from a process....it gets changed.

    Cons

Gypsy management team brought it as 'world class leaders' with high turn over rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop from within, stop thinking your only choice is another low knowledge but highly polished from finishing school 'leader'.

    Pros

Good benefits. Pay is very good for management. The facility is relatively new, clean and well-maintained. It's out in the middle of nowhere, so it is very quiet when you go outside at night.

    Cons

Hourly employees are not treated well by operations management which they do not trust. Pay for hourly employees is well below the norm for the area. Too many process/policy changes continually and all at once. Senior management tends to hire friends to fill management positions and do not hold them accountable. Operation management tend to get whatever resources they desire, while support departments are neglected for proper staffing levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with a across the board plan and stick with it. Treat all departments fairly.

    Pros

There's flexibility in your work schedule. As long as the work gets done, you can adjust your hours as necessary.

    Cons

Total lack of direction. Internal teams seem to work against one another. Both client and employee attrition rates are higher than anyone knows what to do with. The executive team is totally out of touch - they have no idea what their people do every day; they only care about reports and numbers (most of which are inaccurate anyway).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step aside and let a new team come in.

Peer group is great to work with. Employees are fantastic. Flexibility is great.

    Cons

Communication is horrible. Decision making is a joke. Leadership has no idea how to lead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Very nice people. most are trying to do their best. some pockets of real talent.

    Cons

can't seem to stay focused beyond this week. So much change much of it without staying power to keep the path until complete. many people leaving causing continual churn.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get focused and stay the course beyond 1 month.

I worked at eBay Enterprise as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

eCommerce is a great area to work in, new technology and new products make it an interesting place to work in.

    Cons

Pay scales flatten out in middle management. Lack of diversity in middle management, heavily dominated by white males at middle and upper management levels. High burnout rates amongst workers on the ground.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more women in technology management roles, listen to your technical experts on technical matters. Don't work people like galley slaves. Introduce better pay scales for your solution architects and tech leads in order to hire experienced personnel, so that you get the solution right the first time.

    Pros

The best thing about EE is that if you are in the right position, the base pay is excellent and the stock grants are phenomenal. These are the proverbial golden handcuffs which make it hard to leave. There is also a certain freedom here to do what you want because there is so little oversight. This means that if you are good at what you do, you'll have tons of autonomy. If you are a slacker, then you'll fit in as well and will be able to get away with pretty much anything with little to no consequences.

    Cons

Commitments to clients are always broken, there is no trust between client and Ebay Enterprise. There is also little to no trust between management and employees. Employee turnover rates are greater than 28% yearly because your manager could care less about your career because he/she knows you'll leave soon anyway. I cannot imagine being a client of EE. Be wary of long term contracts--most clients leave after the contracts are over due to horrible execution and performance. Seriously, if you are a client considering EE, please look elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do the right thing and listen to corporate CEO John Donahoe. CEO John Donahoe, please do a full audit of local leadership and do the needful. Your $2.4 billion investment is going downhill fast and you don't seem to really care. You bought us and never fixed us. Please bring in strong new leadership that isn't afraid to make bold decisions. This company could be great but we need a complete retooling.
