Best employer of all those at which I have worked.

    SQA (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

ProsEncourages employees. No blame games. Cutting edge jobs & technology. Fantastic benefits. Great work/life balance including fairly flexible work schedules. Many educational opportunities. Generous community activities (huge supporter of FIRST & related activities). Completely a team atmosphere, no empire building.

ConsHard to move laterally (small company)

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work, fantastic employee-centric atmosphere. Encourage lateral moves where possible to support career growth.

    I'm still here

Senior, Engineer (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

ProsBenefits, and I get to work with some very bright people. Occasionally some interesting projects materialize.

ConsAdvancement is not based on your ability, skill, or contributions. Rather it is based on your friendships and out of work activities. I was told by management that i should spend less time with my kids and more time participating in after work functions, I should choose between my family or my career.
Management does not respect the input from experienced people and usually prefers to explore the wrong direction on things, then after the time and budget is expended may consider the advice of more experienced input. Makes you wonder why profits are not what they could be.
Upper level management seems to have many secret agenda and the workforce feels disconnected, even when they do share something most people feel they are not completely truthful.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean your house out, some of your Managers/Directors need to be shown the door, bring in some experienced people and let them get the job done without the micromanagement and other hobbles you have in place now,

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Interesting, diverse, disappointing, uninspiring

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsHalf-day Fridays for the summer. Beer cart. Exceptionally good marketing team. People don’t work as hard as those at other companies I’ve worked at.

ConsLip service to individual performance and skills. No value associated with capabilities beyond specific job description. Limited opportunities for internal growth unless you are personal friends with upper management. Continual layoffs for the last 3 years. Don’t know how to motivate or retain top talent … the reason for so many openings. Not a state-of-the-art company.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand that the technical staff and not the support staff are the life blood of the company.

    Great engineers, poor program management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

ProsA lot of high skilled and talented employees in ALL areas
    Great pay and benefits
    Wonderful vacation time

ConsReally odd purchasing process, take way to long to buy something
Different organizational units are completely out of sync
This company of 600 is run likes it's a company of 100,000, NGC/Lockheed and Boeing are more efficient and have less red tape
Program management here is very weird, extremely inefficient, can't seem to make decisions. Everyone is passing the buck.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to be Google and be iRobot

Highly recommended company to work at

Mechanical Engineer Intern (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

Prosno dress code, relaxed working environment, friendly co-workers, the company has a young feel to it, senior engineers don't come across as anti-social people who rose to where they were simply because they have been with the company for their entire career

ConsSometimes can get lost in the mix as a ME intern due to the structuring of the program. Some of the younger engineers who went through the internship program themselves liked to dump the most tedious work onto the interns which prevented some interns from gaining the valuable experience that the company has to offer

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide a slightly more structured internship program for the ME's. It would have been helpful if we had

Start showing some respect for employees

Upper Management Position (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

ProsShort commute. Can sometimes be very entertaining to listen to some of the conversations.

ConsRubbing elbows with the right people is more important than being good at your job. Management is always pushing the lower staff for higher levels of performance usually related to more hours not more brilliance. Constant reorganization and layoff. Morale is poor. No employee stock plan. Many managers tend to micromanage thus becoming an irritant. The place is like a post College hangout for some, leaving the work to others.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your people. Seems like the big shots come pump up the stock cash out and leave. Too much higher level turnover. Don't treat all the workers like they are expendible.

    What a waste of talent...

Senior Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

    ProsInspiring mission and product portfolio

ConsConstant exodus of highly skilled engineering talent due to poor management. Major issues with management include: lack of honesty, poor decision making, constant reorganizations and layoffs, and absence of career growth for skilled engineers with proven track records. I also find iRobot to be a high anxiety workplace.

Advice to Senior ManagementAddress the cons that I mention above. Be honest with your workers. Start appreciating your engineers!

    Stop the lies

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Bedford, MA

ProsEnthusiastic employees. Creative people. Cool projects.

ConsConstant lies and misinformation coming from upper management. Micromanagement of workers. Too many managers. Numerous layoffs and reorganizations. Weak, non-competitive employee compensation. Lots of turnover...company losing brain trust and top talent.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart paying attention to surveys rather than paying lip service.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
