    Enjoyed the coworkers, but ridiculous policies for Customers

    ConsThe customers are allowed to get away with ANYTHING. The managers aren't always supportive/back up their employees. Unrealistic expectations/deadlines.

    A roller coaster.

    Pros-Discounts on clothing
    -Some times very sweet customers
    -I enjoyed the music.
    -Good team feeling and interaction.

    Cons-I guess it depends on which one you work at, but I never got to many hours besides during holidays. Hours typically were based off the amount of fragrance you sold, but when things picked up the schedule was organized by who was probably the best
    -too much emphasis on fragrance. I tried my best a lot of the time, but got nothing they made me feel like I failed at life.
    -Also, for the people who get really into fragrance they love to write their name down for a fragrance that you or somebody else actually sold and sometimes they think they sold a fragrance when all they did was show someone a fragrance and it was really someone else who really sold the fragrance. I thought I was pretty fair about that though because whenever I rang someone up I asked "So, who helped you decide on this fragrance today?" and they pointed out who it was that really got them to pick up that bottle.
    -The stores are packed. As much merchandise as possible needs to be out on the sales floor.
    -There's training, but people normally don't get adequate training. I was trained very well and with the new hires over time a saw a ton of flaws that jeopardized the shrink and other things.

    Advice to Senior ManagementBe more fair about hours and understand the employees a little bit more sometimes.

    ProsI have a better work life balance here and benefits are okay.

    ConsRue 21 has very old operating systems as far as the POS system goes. Really need to upgrade there technology. The assistant basically does all the work. From operations to everything visually.

    Constask heavy, 25 page markdown packet expected to be done in one day with single coverage
    lots of shipment
    never have the product in time for the visual
    fragrance goals of district set twice as high as company goal
    promotions based on being buddies with the dm
    associates hired based on looking the part

    Advice to Senior ManagementCheck up on your district managers more often. Some of them are definitely not following the "what rue would do" philosophy. Take hr complaints more seriously. If you are losing long time managers right and left in one district, it seems pretty obvious what the issue is.

    Headquarters is located outside of a major city, so work commute is easy

    ConsLow pay ranges because it is a discount retailer
    Outdated Information systems make daily work complicated and frustrating
    Redundant work

    Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management would be to improve the information systems and not just purchase outdated software because it is cheap and saves money because it wastes time, thus costing more overall.

    I am a sales associate at rue 21 where i handle sales trasactions and do customer service.

    ProsWe have employee appreciations once a month where we get 50% off regular price merchandise
    They are very flexible with hours
    Easy job
    Friendly staff

    ConsThe store is hard to keep clean
    The actual discount is 25% off, which is nothing
    The pay is horrible
    Hate how sales associates have no control over certain things on the registers
    The store is never organized
    Managers dont really help out the sales associates when it comes to recovering the store

    Advice to Senior ManagementIt doesnt hurt to help the sales associates out with recovery, just because your a manager doesnt mean you dont have to help recover. Also, show a little bit more of leadership rather than bossing the sales associate around.
