I have been working at rue21 part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

-Good discounts on Associate Appreciation Days which occur nearly every month.
    -Advancement opportunity.

From what I can tell, each individual store's work environment differs greatly.

    Cons

-The higher management does not take time to connect with stores and employees.
    -Too much focus on fragrance.
-Higher management does not account for different store types. I work in a smaller area where we get mostly repeat customers, so if they want the fragrance, they probably already have it.
-They do not fill positions quick enough.
    -No training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your associates and actually hire people when you need to. Try to hire from within the company. Don't focus so much on fragrance.

    I worked at rue21 part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Great co workers. Fast paced. Offers a wonderful learning curve. Develops customer service, ability to sell, multitasking, and patience. Management is willing to help you learn and gives you opportunities to better yourself.

    Cons

Can be overwhelming at times. Holidays and back to school are exhausting. Be prepared for angry moms and snotty kids. Selling fragrances can be difficult and will test your patience. Upper level management can seem unfair at times.

    Pros

You always had something to do which I loved, you were never left without anything to do. 25 percent discount on already great prices, fashion forward and team driven. Loved my team and district manager ! Great place to work for!

    Cons

Not many hours to go around for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on making time and hours to train employees so you dont have such high turnover, if you devote enough time for each employee to be trained you would have a great loyal team.

I have been working at rue21 part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I love the discounts, customer interaction, sales, and most of my managers. The company is very lenient on the dress code as long as you're not advertising other clothing brands. They work around your life's schedule so if you are in school, this is an ideal job. I love working here on most days! Love the company!

    Cons

I do not like the fact that in the past five years I have worked for rue21, I am only a Part-Time Assistant Manager. I know I do my job very VERY well, but the company hires people from the outside very often. I have been a witness to bribery first hand and this needs to be addressed. I call for shifts in all the surrounding cities to have decent hours each week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should consider fully training your employees and have a work shop on how to talk to people. I don't like being ignored and bossed around by someone I work harder than on a daily basis.

    I worked at rue21 full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, great product with low price points, very organized with displaying merchandise, always something to do, travel to other job sites is very fun

    Cons

Drama and gossip, company sometimes doesn't allocate enough hours to get tasks done, too much focus on pushing fragrance when other higher priced point items could be more in focus,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have surveys for customers to fill out about how they feel about their experience. It's the employees turn to say what they feel and you should consider these things when you go back to the drawing board

    I worked at rue21 part-time

    Pros

Great starter job, learned a lot, gained management experience, discounts, fun environment, able to learn a lot about merchandising and customer service. This job was perfect for me as a 16 yr old. I stayed until I was almost 20.

    Cons

I felt leadership was often times poor. Needed to be more hands on and set an example instead of just setting expectations. Also the pay is too low for managers. For sales associates I feel it is fair. But for managers...no wonder there is lack of motivation to lead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership. Build the brand more. Website needs to be more relevant and up to date. Trends are often a year late as well.
