Interviewed Oct 2009 in Overland Park, KS (took 2 days)
They gave an interview without hesitation. The company's recruiters did not seem excited about being there. It was a less than appealing interview. I was left not wanting to apply.

Interviewed Mar 2010 (took 5 weeks)
I had a phone interview that lasted 45 minutes in which I was asked about 30 questions that focused on very specific skills and experiences. The questions ranged over several different disciplines from accounting skills to project management skills to IT skills, to finance skills. After a week, I was told they wanted to interview me in person, and we agreed on a day in about a week and a half. I was told how the day would be scheduled and I would be sent the specific travel arrangements. Two days before I was to be there, they called to say that they could not get all of their people together on that day that they needed to reschedule it to the following week. I was called two days later to say that they were having trouble finding a flight (from a top 20 airport). At the end of that week, I was sent a generic email saying all positions were filled.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 4+ weeks)
My first contact with ADM was submitting my resume online through their career website. I was then contacted to have a phone interview. Two merchandisers called me and asked the basic questions: what do you know about ADM, why ADM, why commodity merchandising, a few behavioral questions. Basically they want to here that you are interested in agribusiness and ADM especially. Convince them that ADM is the only company that is for you and you'll get a second interview. I was they flown out to Decatur for a day interview. We had a meet and greet at the local hotel with some senior managers/ merchandisers. The next day we went on site and got 3 or 4 presentations from current employees and these people didn't really pull any punches. They tell you exactly what its like. During the presentations, the candidates go in an interview rotation with 3 panelists (management) who are basically looking for fit with the company and that you can relate with the business. THERE IS NO TECHNICAL QUESTIONS OR ANYTHING ABOUT THE ACTUAL JOB. They are basically trying to find a reason to not hire you and to find out if you are willing to work in a town with 300 people. They found one or two problems with me.

Interviewed Jun 2007 (took a day)
The interviewers were nice. We talked about my past experiences and some kind of competency questions. Also, some technical questions were also asked. We drank some wine and chat around in a later stage. I think they like my person and so they finally offered me a full-time position.

Interviewed Oct 2008 in Decatur, IL (took a day)
I stopped by to talk to the ADM folks at my college career fair. They had a sign up sheet for 1 on 1 interviews that day.
I interviews later that day with a friendly woman from HR. Very basic interview process. If you can show them that you are truly interested in agribusiness and that you have shown you have done your research on ADM, you should have a good chance at getting the job. Best of luck to all who apply.

Interviewed Dec 2008 in Decatur, IL (took a day)
Two or three weeks after submitting my application, I had a phone interview. The phone interview led to two face to face interviews: one with the head of the department accompanied by what seemed like an assistant manager, and another with an HR representative. When I arrived for the interview, I was escorted by an employee to an elevator and guided to a conference room; where I waited for several minutes.
The first interview were mostly scenario based questions. These questions were read directly from a worksheet. The second interview (HR) was much more straight forward; with questions regarding personal accomplishments and goals.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Decatur, IL (took 2 days)
Was notified that they wanted to interview me about 6 days before the actual interview. First interview was with a 3-person panel, then an HR representative, with about an hour spent with each. Questions were generally about my background and past experience with some behavioral questioning. Got feedback about 5 days later that they wanted to interview me a second time. Second interview lasted an hour with the same 3-person panel and included a short plant tour. Questioning was much tougher at second round and focused on my knowledge of the company and basic operations in a plant environment. Waited about 2 weeks to hear back that I didn't get the offer. ADM's interviews were really based on getting to see if you 'fit' in their culture. Are you committed to the company, detail-oriented, and organized? Being from Central Illinois, especially Decatur, will win you big bonus points.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Decatur, IL (took 2 days)
The hiring process was very unorganized. I got a phone call to be onsite and requested an agenda and background on the hiring manager and the business he represented within ADM. I received no feedback before the interview. There were 4 candidates interviewed on the same day.
I had no specific expereince in the food industry and was treated as an outcast from the very beginning. My technical background was much stronger than the other candidates but the questioning during lunch and during the panel interview was all related to who I knew in the food industry and why ADM was superior to all the others. I never had a chance and the interview was merely a formality.
It pays to have a connection within ADM. it pays be a local who fits in with the "culture" in Decatur. (rural mentality whose most important thing is working at ADM)
