Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Jan 2009 – Reviewed Oct 25, 2012

Interview Details – This happened after I was hired: I was given a Final Warning w/o 1st or 2d warnings, for e sending an email "you're not my secretary" to a client while I was dealing with my dad's death, my looming lung surgery, and my son's need for special ed.

Interview Questions

  • They gave me the Final Warning letter to sign w/o my union present, in the CEO's office, under extreme pressure, w/o time to read or question it. Like the Nazis. There technique is to get an underling into an office, w/o warning or representation, and say "Sign now!"   View Answer
  • When layoffs began in Jan 2009, I knew nothing. Called my boss to confirm 11 am meeting. At 10:30, she said "Come to the HR room." There I was given a 3-mo comp pkg (in the midst of the worst Recession since 1930s), w/o union representation, and told to sign it ASAP. (In fact, they already had shut down my computer and planned an escort out of the bldg in front of coworkers of 9 yrs. Mind you, I had not stolen anything, plagiarized anything, hampered the cash cow of NYLJ at all, to my knowledge. I was treated like a Dead Guilty Man Walking as I had to pack up things while others looked on and hurry out. They didn't care if I had the slightest thing personal on the computer after 9 years or if I left something in my desk accidentally after 9 years. I was a non-person, a nuisance, not deserving of simple human courtesey.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – Take it or leave it. If you don't like it, there are plenty out there who we can hire. Don't waste our time. Klieg lights shone in my face.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Mar 2009 – Reviewed Oct 14, 2010

Interview Details – Meet with quite a few people. Most seemed to be too busy to really get into any kind of meaningful conversation - checking email / taking phone calls. Office seemed to be pretty well organized. Apart from the bad interview techniques most people seemed to be really nice.

Interview Question – Scenario based issue resolution type questions.   Answer Question
