Interviewed Mar 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 3 weeks)
Applied through school's careerlink, received email a week or so later asking to set up phone interview. First round was with outside hiring firm, basic behavioral questions about firm. Second round was with AT&T recruiter, again asking behavioral and "why AT&T" questions. Third round was at local branch with regional sales manager. This one was much more informal, with me basically asking him questions about life on the job.

Interviewed Oct 2008 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
Applied online. Received a phone call saying they were interested in setting up a formal interview. Went to a store location for an interview in the back office. It lasted maybe a half an hour. Asked questions about my previous sales experience, etc. They made an offer and I agreed as the hourly pay and location of the store were perfect for my situation.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took a day)
I thought the interviewer had already made his mind prior to my arrival on his choices. I was the last candidate out of maybe 40-50 so he was pretty weary and it showed. He seemed almost bored from jump. Very polite but bored. I must admit, I was not totally prepared for the detailed probing nature of the questions. But I have been and am a very seasoned and accomplished salesman all my life and actually this job was really 3 levels below my skill set, but I digress. In his defense, I had my share of "can you repeat the questions". But I felt my answers were pretty good. Certainly had to better than a ton of the total dweebs I saw walking around the place, but again, I digress. At the end of the interview, we did a role play where I had 5 minutes to sell him a product. I KNOW I knocked that out of the park, but I may have had a few to many ummm's in the rst of the interview. My advice to the great unwashed. Prepare for situational questions. Think of what if type questions. Think of specific orders and events and good and bad orders/customers/dealings/events you have had to deal with and the SPECIFIC way you handled them. Be clear and concise. Avoid the ums. Believe me, when the rubber hits the road, you'd be surprised how hard it is to recall simple past events that you could usually recall in a skinny minute. Overakk, I hate to admit it, but I probably did blow it.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took a day)
Was mored briefed about what it takes to sell at AT&T than formally interviewed. Generic questions like how did you hear about this position and what do you know about the company. All together it took about twenty-five minutes and consisted more of listening than conversation.

At&T takes a while to respond and their website can be a real pain. There is no contact information so you basically have to sit around and wait for them to contact you.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in Roswell, GA (took 4 months)
Submitted online application and received email invitation to take qualifying exam. It's a very simple, math structured, test. After passing that test, a drug screen, physical and Realistic Job Preview (RJP) was scheduled. Extensive background check was done verifying all past experiences. After successfully passing those obstacles, another phone interview was conducted. AT&T calls this the CSA-F, Customer Service Assessment – Field and it is designed to see if you are going to represent AT&T well in front of the customer.
I was offered, and accepted, a job.

Negotiation Details
This job starts at $9 an hour and extends as high as $15. I was told, that if you have little or no experience, to expect to start at the bottom. However, I was able to negotiate to the top of that pay band and I suggest that you try the same. You'll have to have qualifying experiences that you can discuss so BE PREPARED.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Presentation, an IQ/Intelligence Test, a Skills Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Received and Declined Offer

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 days)
received interview opportunity after dropping resume off at college career fair
1) phone interview pre-screening, being considered for the NETREX entry level position, under GNO SERVICE OPERATIONS...basic behavioral 30 minute interview
2) selected for on campus interview, 1 hour, 2:1 interview..started with standard behavioral interview, then was asked some technical questions, on how to approach some network deployments...
3) received offer after a week or two...
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I worked 2 years, and was about to receive a masters from a top 5 engineering graduate program, ..the recent median salary graduating from my engineering program was 76,000, i was offered an insulting 55,000 with 72 hours to decide. It is insulting because I made more coming out of college two years ago (60,000), and the median salary for our undergraduate program is 65,000. After negotiating, the salary was moved up to 62,000 , which still was uncompetitive despite the unemployment rate.
The fact that the whole interview process was only 1.5 hrs, that they offer 72 hr deadlines, and low-ball salaries....sheds light on the fact that they aren't really looking for the best qualified and fit candidates, ..the are looking for candidates that are more desperate for jobs. In addition, they require a 18 month commitment...ridiculous. Just from the on start i can see how AT&T is not a company that wants to treat their employees right.
Other Details
I got the interview through a College or University and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Skills Test and a Personality Test.
