Interviewed Nov 2011 in Mount Dora, FL (took 3+ weeks)
I applied on November 25th, and got a call from a recruiter on the 29th. She interviewed me over the phone, asking questions about my previous employment, and why I wanted to work for AT&T. After about 5-10 minutes, she asked if I was available to meet with the regional HR manager the next morning. I said yes, so she made an appointment for 9AM the next morning.
On November 30th, I met with the regional manager at AT&T Regional HQ. She was very friendly, and asked me lots of questions in STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Response). She then went over my resume extensively, and asked me why I was right for the job. The retail sales position is primarily a sales job, so the interview really focused on my sales ability, and specific selling strategies I've used in the past.
This interview lasted about an hour, and after that she texted the manager of the store I was applying too, and setup an appointment for me to go there the next morning. The HR Manager said that a button up shirt & tie would look better with the store manager (I was not wearing a tie, just button up shirt).
On December 1st, I went to the store location I was applying too, and the manager brought me to the back for about a 1.5 hour interview. This covered everything from "Sell me this phone" to "Why do you want to work for AT&T?". It was a very laid back interview, and the manager explained to me the commission structure, and what a day-in-the-life of a consultant will be. She went over my resume, and asked how my experience from each position would help me in my job at AT&T. After about 90 minutes, she had me shadow another consultant for a few minutes, to help me understand the job. I asked him some questions, and watched him handle customers. I really think the shadowing helped me to understand the position better. Afterwards, the manager said I would be hearing back from the original recruiter in a few days, to find out whether I got the job.
All in all, I could tell the other employee's really loved their jobs, they enjoyed working with customers, and didn't feel too stressed out about the goals.
2 weeks after my in-store interview, I got a call from the original recruiter that had contacted me, and she extended a formal contingent offer. I was offered $11.42/hr (Full Time), with an "Annual targeted at-risk variable compensation" between $14,400 and $15,600 (that's estimated commission). Being a full time job, it also included full benefits. Since it was a union represented job, it also included guaranteed raises every 6 months, and a few other things like that. The offer was contingent on a background check and drug test.
THE BACKGROUND CHECK:
AT&T uses a company called HireRight to process background checks & drug tests. I have heard a lot of bad things about them, but I knew my record had nothing to hide. After a few days, they said they needed tax records to prove employment dates at one of my previous employers. these records had to be W2's, 1099's, or pay stubs, NOTHING else. I had records of everything except for the end date, since 2011 W2's hadnt been issued yet, and I no longer had access to pay stubs. They told me I had 48hrs to provide proof for 2011 anyway, there was nothing they could do. So after running around like crazy, I was able to find a pay stub from 2011, all good. I took the drug test at a local facility, which was really convenient. after 4 days, my HireRight online account showed the report was complete. TIP: Contact HireRight via live chat, or phone support once your background report says complete, and ask for a copy of the report. They will email it to you, and you'll be able to see the full report that AT&T see's, so you can dispute things if anything is incorrect.
Once the report said complete, I contacted my recruiter, and she said congratulations, I'm hired!
I go to training about 100 miles away from my home for 2 weeks, then go to my store for 1 week, then back to training one last week. During this time I'll be paid normally, plus "Ramp-Up Pay" (1200 first month, and reduced down every month for first 6 months). They will also be covering the cost of the hotel, but said I would need a credit card to cover hotel incidentals. I will be provided a phone during training, and my AT&T shirts will come in during the second week.
Hope this helps, good luck with you application!

Interviewed May 2011 (took 3 weeks)
I applied for the position online. During the online application I had to take a personality test. After passing the personality test I was called by a recruiter for a phone interview. The interview took me by surprise as he immediately began to conduct the entire interview in Spanish. After passing the spanish phone interview I had an interview with the hiring manager at a local store. The following week I had a final interview with the manager of the store I was applying for. 3 days later they called to offer me the job. My job offer was contingent upon me passing a drug test. After passing the pee test I was then flown out to Dallas four different times for training. It was awesome! AT&t gives you a stipend of $45 per day... pays for rental cars and taxis and also puts you in a really nice hotel.

Interviewed May 2011 in Fort Smith, AR (took 2 weeks)
i applied online and recieved a call about 3 or 4 days later from HR asking me questions. I cannot remember then exactly but basically she was asking pre interview questions and making sure I knew what the job was about, the pay. A few days later I recieved a call to set up a 1:1 interview. The 1:1 interview was with a guy over all of the AT&T stores across the area. He was nice and easy to talk to. He asked questions specifically about past experiences such as "how did you deal with an irate person in your past jobs" and "what is your biggest weakness." The interview lasted at least an hour and I thought that I did well at the time. A few days later I recieved a call, I missed the call but I recognized the number from before so I called it back. It was the guy who interviewed me and he told me he would normally dock points for not having voicemail set up but he would let it slide, which was nice of him but I had just got a new phone and forgot to set it up, so make sure your voicemail is set up. The second 1:1 interview was with the store manager. She too was nice and easy to talk to. She asked some of the same questions, but none of the hard, tricky ones such as "what is your biggest weakness." The interview lasted only about 20 minutes. She sounded confident that she wanted me to work there and was talking as if I was already hired. To my surprise I recieved an email stating they "found someone more qualified for the position." I have worked at an AT&T retail store for 2 years, but I just wanted a job at corporate.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Saco, ME (took a day)
In order to get in the door you need to know someone, random candidates rarely are accepted. I had communication with an employee who was a vendor going from business to business, he became a store manager and recruited me. I then was called by the hiring manager, was offered an interview, interviewed, then was sent for a 4 week training class out of state. All expenses were paid.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Pleasanton, CA (took a day)
My experiene is based on working for them and deciding to go perm. In general is interview is pretty laid back. First interview was with a group of engineers and the manager that would hire me. Second interview was with the director.
First interview, was a last minute setup. I did not prepare myself well for the technology I will be working in. Sadly, this is how the group gauge my level of epxerience. In the end, I felt i let myself down and did not show what I can offer. Even though I have alot more experiences and well rounded beyond my peers in what I can offer, it was a appointment on my part. I know if I take the job, it will take more time and energy to prove myself. I accepted the position and so far it is true.

I was given a very low salary but at the end I end up getting just the avg
My advice is don't be afraid to go 20-30K more than what they offer as this was my issue. I thought going at 20K more than they offer me was a good deal;however, this is what HR want to make you feel. It is a trap. So go at least 20K or at least what you think you are worth.

The interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview and a Skills Test.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Greenville, SC (took 2 days)
I acquired the job from a Monster posting I saw online. After signing up for an account in their career website and filling out a long 20 minute questionnaire I was done with the applying online. After 3 days I got a call from a hiring manager to see if I was interested in the job, and had an interviewed scheduled the next day. I arrived at their corporate office and was interviewed by a hiring manager. The interview was fairly short and it focused on the themes of customer service and previous experience. The following day I got an email that said that I had moved on to the next stage of the hiring process. I had to go meet the manager of the store I was applying to. After meeting her and answering a few questions she told me I had the job.
