Interviewed Aug 2009 in San Antonio, TX (took 1 week)
Managers with ATT go to hiring / interviewing classes to ask certain questions. its eventually all put on paper and eliminates a personal interview. they select what questions to ask and mark the answer. it is more of a legal protection than an information gathering tool

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Chico, CA (took 1 week)
I filled out an application online. A couple days later I had a pre screened 5 minute interview. 2 Days later I received another phone interview. I did well with the phone interviews and was scheduled for a 1 on 1 interview. I was told to dress professional and to bring my resume. When I arrived at the store I meet the manager who was hiring. As soon as he saw me he looked at me from head to toe and gave a displeasing look. I apparently I did not dress professional enough. I was asked a series of questions. Be careful when answering their questions. They are trick questions. Of course I was applying for a sales position. I am a good sales person, but I guess I'm not a shark like what they were looking for.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in New York, NY (took 2+ weeks)
I applied online for the position. Did an online test also. Took like three days to hear back from an HR representative. Had an in-person interview two days after with the manager at the store. About 5 days later received a called back from HR to see if I wanted to except the position. Had to do a drug test, and a background check. That took about a week to complete. The whole process went very smoothly. Go At&t!

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Denver, CO (took a day)
I applied to AT&T about 3 weeks ago. I received a phone call immediately about a week after I initially applied. I wasn't in the area at the time for the one on one interview so I had to wait until I got back into town. Getting back with the hiring manager was hard since I'm sure he/she was extremely busy. I finally emailed the hiring manager after calling them a few times. I got an email back for an interview which was today (10/12/11). I went in to speak with the hiring manager. Basically the things they spoke about was what the job involves, the training, what is expected of you, and then they went into what my customer service experience was like and to give them some examples. The hiring process is you get interviewed by the hiring manager then the store manager of whatever store you want to work at that's hiring. So after the short interview with the hiring manager I was sent directly to the store to meet the manager of that location. The interview was basically the same thing as the first interview. We went a little more into the training which is a lot apparently.
A month long training program which could be in another state (expenses paid of course)
a) the first two weeks are in a classroom setting Monday through Friday.
b) the third week you are in the store you are going to be working at shadowing another senior rep.
c) the last week you are back in the classroom setting for questions and to wrap it up.
For the first 6 months you are paid your hourly which depends on your experience and what they call a "ramp up" commission. From what I gathered it is for you to focus more on your training and not make sales your first 6 months to help you out. However, if you started hitting the floor and your a killer sales rep they will take your ramp up away and you will be on hourly + commission which the commission is more than the ramp up if your selling anyways. They said an average rep makes from $35,000 to $40,000 a year, some make $50,000 to $60,000 and they have had some reps in the PAST make $80,000 to $100,000 in a year. This position is not a normal retail position hence the in depth training. The assistant manager told me that his girlfriend used to work 4 days a week and go to school full time and she was making more than him and he was working 6 days a week so that's why he works for AT&T now. The hiring manager told me that it cost AT&T about $40,000 to train one person since they pay for the expenses and pay you commission basically. AT&T is a union job so you do have to pay the union a fee once a month however you have someone to back you up if the manager is pissed off one day and fires you randomly.
So after I did the interview with the store manager and assistant manager I was left with not much to go on except have a nice day. No "we will call you if your chosen for the position" or "give us a call on Friday". So basically I am in limbo of what is going to happen therefore I will be looking for another job in the mean time and if it pays more I will be going with that.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Wellington, FL (took a day)
Interviewed with a very nice gentleman and it went very well. Was expecting a call for a second interview and never heard a thing. Eight straight years of retail support and sales experience and not even a second? No wonder they are one of the worst in customer service.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Abilene, TX (took 3+ weeks)
Process took 27 days from online application to offer. Day after I applied, I received an automated notice of a required questionnaire. It was more of an ethics/personality test. A little over two weeks later I received a call from HR scheduling a meeting with the store manager. HR mentioned the retail hours required by the position. She would only continue the process if you understood and agreed to that. The next day HR called me back and cancelled the store manager meeting. The meeting was now via phone with a manager in Plano, TX. Typical interview, detailed more about the position. HR called me back a few days later and scheduled an appointment to visit the store. Meeting was exactly 7 days from the phone interview with the manager in Plano. Store visit was pretty laid back, mostly run by the assistant manager. I even got to visit with another Fin Rep for about 10 minutes. Four days later HR called me and offered me the position. After supplying them with my SSN, I received an email with the formal offer. With that came lots of other AT&T paperwork. Currently, doing my background and drug check. With work starting in about 2 weeks. A little over 6 weeks from online application to employment start. Hope that helps.
Negotiation Details
Tried to negotiate for higher salary due to not requiring health insurance. HR said there was no negotating for this position.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took a day)
I applied online and was contacted within a week, telling me I had moved on to the interview stage. I had to call and make an appointment. But before the interview stage I had to attend an online tele-conference with AT&T person telling us more about the program. I asked a question. It was informative, but the woman seemed very matter-of-fact, stating we would have to meet a quota even when we are training.
