Interviewed Dec 2011 in Lebanon, IN (took a day)
I was called by the regional manager and invited to come to a store 35 minutes away from where I live for an interview. Over the phone, he asked two preliminary questions: (1) what sports I played in college and (2) what military experience I had, if any. (He might as well have asked me what my favorite boy band was; it would have been just as relevant.) On the evening of the interview, I waited, seated on a scratched ("certified pre-leased") leather love seat, for forty minutes while the regional manager talked with someone else. Once it was my turn, I was ushered into a small, bizarre office (the "closing room") and asked the same questions he had asked me over the phone and very little else. I was offered a job on the spot--and I really don't think it was because I had an especially outstanding resume or qualifications. I think he looked at me and saw a doughy, malleable little twenty-something who would do anything to get paid more than $9 per hour--and that was mostly true.

Negotiation Details
I was told what the job was called and what it paid. I was told I would get commission for furniture and appliance I sold, but this was a blatant lie.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Jan 2012 (took a day)
Filled out online application for manager trainee. Contacted next day by regional manager to schedule interview. Interviewed two days later. Interview was very informal and relaxed. A few basic questions about my background and skills.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Sounded like many of the job positions including general manager spend 50% or more of their time in collections on the phone and in person. Many times they expect you to use your personal vehicle which will rack up significant mileage doing work stuff. Work schedule is 6 days a week due to understaffed store. After all aspects of job were explained it seems employees aren't set-up for success from the start. Front end sales are approved to people they know may not be able to meet the contract terms which snowballs into a collections nightmare for the manager trainee since the purchase should not have been approved from the start in many cases. Online job description sounds much better than reality. The job description should be door-to-door collections from dead beats who you may or may not ever contact which will reflect poorly on your performance.

Interviewed Dec 2011 (took 1 week)
I was in great need of a job. I recently just graduated from college May 11' with a B.S. degree. The job market is very slim in my area and didn't have any money to move. A friend referred me to Aarons. I filled out the online app and went into the store to see if I could get an interview. Got it! Went in for the interview there was no pressure. The GM manager was very nice and she discussed the functions of being a manager trainee ( answering calls, calling about payment, possibly have to repo items, and assisting on the sales floor) and the hours I would have to work (40-45hrs) basically doing a little bit of everyone else job, which was no problem for me.
Everything went well then she set up an interview with the Regional Manager. Meet with RM, which was not an interview, basically reviewed everything from first interview and told me my goal was to make it to GM within 6months to a yr. Told him I had no problem as long as relocation was paid, which he agreed it could be arranged.
Interview:
Applied online, 1:1 General Manager, 1:1 Regional Manager, Background check, Drug Test.
Only possible negatives (depends on the person):
- Working 40-50hrs wkly
-Collect of items from home
Overall, good experience, nice store and friendly staff... I see a lot of negative reviews, but I think it just depends on the store.
Hope this helps. :) Good Luck!

Be sure that you have a low stress level especially dealing with customers on a daily basics with collections. Be positive. It may not be the job you want, but the job you need to get you buy. I haven't worked out salary yet. Scheduled for a drug test Tuesday, which I'm positive I will pass.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Daytona Beach, FL (took 5 days)
I initially applied for the position on an internet job board. They are always accepting applications, but I was lucky that they were about to open a brand new store and needed to hire someone within a few weeks. I had a one-on-one interview with the Assistant Regional Manager. It was a very laid back interview with good conversation both ways. After the interview, I was scheduled for the drug test/background check and hired when the results came in.

Interviewed Dec 2010 in Tampa, FL (took a day)
Received a call from the regional sales manager the day after I completed the on-line application to come in and interview the next day. It was a pretty informal interview process with the regional sales manager. He liked me so he called and directed me to go see his boss at another Aaron's location closer to my home who thought would like to interview me as well. That interview consisted of the regional accounts manager and his boss. That interview went well as I had many transferable skills from my past work history that would help me at this job. They did a background check while I was there and asked me what I expected for a salary.

Typical starting salary is around $30k plus commission and I knew that from reading this site ahead of time. I asked for that amount and was given it, but later was told that I was a "steal" and from that I determined that I should have asked for another $5-10k to see what might have happened.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Port Saint Lucie, FL (took 2 days)
Typical interview: they call, you go in for an interview, they call back, you go in for a personality test, they call back, you go for a drug test and come in for hours and hours of training and tests and then you start working 50+ hours a week.

Do your homework and ask about how often the manager positions are available in the area. Bonuses are hard to get and the calls for 250-500 people are done twice a day every day and you are calling home, cell, work, and references...and knocking on doors. Be prepared to have people hate you as a manager trainee must collect from most of the poeple ASAP or the regional managers will come down hard on you. The best way to describe the job is a repo man or debt collector. It's exhausting and very little reward other than a headache and people pointing guns at you and threattening you when you come to their house. Just know about the company and the position before you start. This is not a job everyone can do or is stong enough for mentally.

Interviewed May 2010 in Columbus, OH (took 2 days)
Easy, no hard questions. They wanted to hire me before I came in though. I met with the general manager of store and a regional manager. The worst part was they sent me across town to do a drug screen.
