Interviewed Oct 2008 (took a day)
Dinner before the actual interview day. No interviewers presented in the dinner. Your behavior would be assessed during dinner time by some other people from the company.
Interviewer = Product Manager, mainly ask behavior type questions. Why Abbott? etc. Ask a technical question on pricing; name four things you absolutely need for pricing a product.
Interview lasted for 30 minutes.

initial communication and coordination was good and efficient.
There was only 1 round for me (adminstrator position) but for senior positions, there are at least 2 rounds, one with HR and department manager and another with senior management.
punctuality and accountability is a must. You have to demonstrate leadership abilities and teamwork, trust me,I know what I am talking about.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
I had one interview, which was a 1:1 with a friendly Abbott vascular hiring manager. After asking me 2 simple questions, he asked me whether or not I would be available to come back for a second interview later that day, which I said yes to. Apparently the second interview confirmed that I got the job and was simply an interview planning out logistics about where I would like to be placed and so on.

Interviewed Jan 2008 (took 2 days)
I was sent an emailed questionnaire to fill out. Approximately two weeks went by before my first panel interview. There was practically zero eye contact, because the interviewers were reading behavioral scenarios from paper. Another two weeks go by. I had another panel interview.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Abbott Park, IL (took a day)
I was initially introduced to the company through a presentation they gave in an accounting club I was involved with. After that, they also donated scholarship money to the club, which I was one of the receipients of. I got to know one of the managers there who took a proactive approach in trying to get to know the students and expose them to Abbott.
after that, during fall recruiting, I was accepted for the interview. The structure of their interview consisted of two management level executives interviewing you. One was more involved in the intern/FPDP program, while the other focused more on the operations of the business as a whole on the financial side. Their interview was very standard in the questions they would ask, such as work experience and such. What I found peculiar was their strong focus on asking me about my failures/a-time-I-was-uncomfortable, which threw me off track a bit, making me deliver less than satisfactory answers.

Interviewed Apr 2007 in Abbott Park, IL (took 3 weeks)
Fairly standard interview process with three individuals. Mostly focussed on past accomplishments, future goals, and the interviewers going on to describe the project direction and their expectations from the new positions. Over all easy interview I would say.

Interviewed Nov 2007 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Initially got referred through a recruiter. The set up for the interview went very well. Abbott coordinated my flight, hotel, and transportation without any problems. My initial conversation with HR at the beginning of the interview day was not pressured in terms of finding out what my salary requirements were, which I appreciated. They had sent me the benefits package prior to my going to Abbot and were able to answer any questions I had. I was put in a room, and each interviewer came to see me. Each interviewer was very engaged in their discussions with me and very forthright in what they were looking for. The people I interacted with were nice and seemed to enjoy working at Abbott. I did get the sense that the decision-making was top-down and that movement "up the ladder" wasn't very common. The work culture appeared to be respectful.

Interviewed Mar 2007 in North Chicago, IL (took 1 week)
Abbott has reduced their complex process to what they call "4X4X1" - Four people being interviewed for a particular position; four interviewers in turn, all done on one day if the schedule allows.
Abbott is big on Behavioral-based interviewing and seems to be leaning towards more expertise in probing questions - digging deeper after your initial response.
