Interviewed Jan 2008 in Norfolk, VA (took 2+ weeks)
-In store, computer application process
- recieve a phone call and initial screening, along with setting up the interview time
- The actual interview process consists of the District manager conducting a one on one interview. It is very structured. They ask you basic questions about your management style, behavioral situations, general questions that evaluate your integrity. I did have to follow up after the amount of time the district manager said she would be contacting me and she then extending when she would be making an offer. All in all it took two and half weeks but it did result in a job in the Management Training program.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 days)
Submitted a resume through a college recruiting site. Heard back ten minutes later to schedule an interview. The same recruiter interviewed me asking situational questions about dealing with people/challenges. Days later, I met with district manager who told me they didn't want someone who didn't want a management career.

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Austin, TX (took 2 weeks)
I went to a college career fair. I talked to a city recruiter for A&F and after talking to her for a while I had the first interview scheduled for the day after I met her. I met with the recruiter at the store and the interview was conducted. The interview was very structured, there where no questions that were asked that weren't on her list of questions. There were diversity questions, and situational questions. She wrote down my answers to review it at a later time. The interview lasted about an hour. She was really friendly and talked a lot about the different career paths at A&F. She made sure to state that most people that work at A&F started as MIT's (Manager in Training). I received a call about a week later to set up a second interview. The second interview was with the district manager. At the second interview the district manager did most of the talking and it only lasted about 20 minutes. There were really no questions it was more like an informal meeting between two people. I received a job offer about 3 days later.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Orlando, FL (took 1+ week)
Well, I applied for this position by sending my resume via craigslist. I got a callback about a week later to set up an interview a few days later. I showed up for the interview in A&F clothing and the interviewer sat me down and asked a few questions. I am graduating in December and wanted to put my Bachelor's to use. I thought the interview went well and the interviewer said I had "the look", however I received an email about 3 days later saying they wanted to pursue other candidates.

Interviewed Sep 2009 (took a day)
Had to fill out an application online (can only be done through PCs, although they had computers in the store to also fill out applications). Like most large companies, they had an "equal opportunity employer" question but they only asked you if you were Hispanic or not and the questions didn't say it was optional, which was a little strange since most places list off a number of races and ethnicities for you to choose from and the question is usually optional.
Came in for an interview and they basically just read off questions from a packet and write down your answers. Interview took about 1 hour. They told me they would call me next week and then go through an "easy" background check before they made an offer. A few days later I got an email from the hiring manager saying they weren't hiring me. I was a little taken aback since I thought I did really well on the interview and I was more than qualified for the job. Later, I talked to some other Hispanic people who have worked for Abercrobmie & Fitch and Hollister and they said that they aren't very friendly to hiring Latinos and Hispanics, even if you would come off as their average customer and/or work for them. That was a little disheartening to think I lost a job that I was qualified for and excited about because of my race. So, my advice to Hispanics who are applying for this job is to NOT tell them you are Hispanic! Even if you have a Hispanic name!!
Dress code for the interview was casual. I wore Abercrombie clothes: low cut jeans and a plaid shirt.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took a day)
Abercrombie & Fitch is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with in terms of employment/interviewing.
After being recruited at an A&F flagship to be a "model" I chose to interview for the MIT position in order to put my new Bachelor's degree to use. I interviewed at an A&F location closer to home. They were quick to grant me an interview with the DM and give me the password to fill out the online application. I interviewed Friday of that very week.
The interview was very stiff and robotic. There wasn't much room for human conversation. The DM basically read off of a prepared script verbatim (which had the questions, benefits, and their "look policy") the whole entire time and barely even looked up to make eye-contact.
The DM did not have a business card to give to me after the interview. She neither gave me any contact info like e-mail or phone #, but rather just told me "call the store if you need to." (very unprofessional!)
She said she'd let me know either way by "Friday of next week."
I waited till that day and called the store. I talked directly to her and she claimed, "I haven't finished the background check I will get back to you early next week." (very unprofessional, once again!)
I called the Friday of the second week. I left a message with her which was left unreturned.
I called Monday of the third week. The GM answered saying, giving the excuse, "The background check probably hasn't been completed b/c the our system is down. It may not be done for a while." I left the DM another message with which was left again, unreturned.
FINALLY, Thursday of that 3rd week, I receive a generic postcard neither addressed to me, nor signed by anyone. Not via e-mail, but rather, post-mail. It said the generic stuff "Thank you for your interest in A&F... we have decided to pursue other candidates..."
A&F is unprofessional by:
1. Not giving any business card/direct contact info
2. Not acting within the promised time period
3. Giving a non-personalized, generic rejection
I know that to be accepted in the Manager-in-Training program, one only needs to "look good/have A&F style" and have a BA/BS. While some MIT's can work there with a degree in Dance, I have one in Marketing/Business. Something more pertinent to A&F. It didn't matter. While others have told me I'm "attractive", I have modeled and competed in pageants as a teen, I got "recruited" to work an the A&F flagship recently, and "recruited" at Hollister Co. back in 2006, it didn't matter. I still got rejected.
At least I don't need to abide by A&F's "look policy" and I can wear as much eyeliner/nail polish colors to my heart's content now.

Interviewed Aug 2007 in Destin, FL (took 1 week)
Applied for the job from that area's recruiter. Got a call back from the district manager to set up an interview with the store manager. I think it was to see if I looked "cool" engough to interview with the district manager. There were just basic questions, none that really asked why I qualified for the job. After the interview with the store manager, the district manager called to set up an intherview with her. Agian, just had basic questions.

Interviewed Jun 2007 (took a day)
A store was opening in my city and a hotline number was posted on their banner. I called the number and left a message asking of management positions (4yr degree required). I was called into the food court of my mall for an hour long interview. I was interviewed by the district manager and was asked basic behavioral type questions. EX: Tell me about a time when someone in your group at school or at work was not participating? What did you do?
The interview wasn't too bad; however, tonce I started to work for the company I realized how shallow they really were. The interview consisted of the physical appearance rating from 1-5, 5 being the best. If you were a 3 or below you were not hired no matter how well you interviewed. Do you really want to work for a company like that?

Interviewed Mar 2008 (took a day)
One interview with the General Store Manager and the District Manger. Questions generally assess the ability to work in a team environment. The dress code for the interview is casual, and they want you to wear their clothing. The work culture is a way of life. It's not only a job when you are there but also on your days off you are thinking about work.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Saint Louis, MO (took a day)
I had one interview with the operations manager, both of us casually dressed. Abercrombie have a no make-up, no jewelry, no formal shoes, no nail varnish policy; staff must wear the brand and Converse All Stars or flip flops all year round, on the basis that the staff are advertising the brand.
