Interviewed Mar 2010 in San Antonio, TX (took a day)
Apply via www.academy.com. After applying, based on if your resume is to their standard, very lax, they will call you back. It is better for you to call them first to show that you are interested in the position. I don't think they have changed up their interview structure, but it is one interview, and you either got the job or you did not. Dress in a polo shirt and black/khaki slacks. The work culture at my particular store is understood. I worked with many other college students that were trying to get their degrees. Most employees worked hard and played hard. It is definitely a fun place to work.

Interviewed May 2012 in Nacogdoches, TX (took 3 days)
The phone interview basically just asked questions like when can you work, what do you expect from the job, and what are your hobbies. After he finished the questions he invited me for a one on one interview the following day. I went to the interview and he asked some basic situational questions, such as tell me about a time when you didn't like the policy at work, tell me about a time when you went above and beyond to help a customer, and tell me about a time when you did something good but didn't get recognized for it. After the interview was complete, I was offered a position on the spot.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Sugar Land, TX (took a day)
Interviewed by the department head, he asked generic questions about why I wanted to work there and why i chose Academy. The then asked questions about my current situation and schooling. Last part was a brief background check and questionnaire about my previous work history. The people there are outgoing and the interview is fairly easy.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Sugar Land, TX (took a day)
Applied online and filled out the standard academy questionnaire. Was then called by the team sports manager to set up a interview in store. Asked the typical retail questions, how would you deal with a mad customer?, how would you handle more than one customer at a time? and some really basic behavioral questions.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took a day)
Very simple interview. Interviewer didn't seem to be very organized. You were asked random questions from a sheet of paper. Some of the questions included things like: How do you feel about this statement "The customer is always right", what does customer service mean to you, how did u find out about our company, and what are your long term goals?

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took 2 days)
I received a call from a recruiter who had seen my information on LinkedIn. I had a phone interview with the hiring manager. This moved me to the next phase of the interview process. I went in for the in person interview. I met with four interviewers in Operations Management, Sales, Promotions and again the hiring manager in Marketing. A very good interview all around. Unfortunately, did not get the job. That was the hitch is that they did not even send a letter to let me know. Had to hound the recruiter to find out the status. I guess in this case no news was not good news.
