Research Analyst at Acumen

No Offer – Interviewed in Burlingame, CA Jan 2013 – Reviewed May 15, 2013

Interview Details – Initially, I sent in a resume and cover letter and was contacted three weeks later with a "writing test"-- they went me some Medicare data and had me answer a few questions about it (this was actually very time consuming). After I sent this in, about a week later I was contacted for a phone interview. I interviewed with someone who had a PhD in Epidemiology; he was very friendly and the interview was pretty standard, asked about my interests and experience (definitely prepare to answer in-depth questions about your research experience including technical details, I wasn't that prepared for this). A few days later they emailed me and set up an in-person interview. The in-person interview was a 4-hour process including an IQ/basic statistics test (1 hour), and 4 one-on-one interviews with different analysts. The in-person interview questions were pretty standard and a little repetitive. I was a little nervous but thought the interview went well overall; but I was emailed about a week later and was not offered a position. The office in Burlingame was a bit unprofessional, but I actually appreciated this because the environment is casual but they get a lot of good work done.

Interview Question – The phone interview went into detail about my technical research experience. In the in-person interview, be prepared to answer questions about the writing/data exercise you did for them.   Answer Question

Quantitative Research Analyst-Statistical Programmer at Acumen

No Offer – Interviewed in Burlingame, CA Jul 2012 – Reviewed Aug 12, 2012

Interview Details – I applied online and got a phone interview after 2 weeks. The interview is mostly about my resume and experience, no technical questions. I am given a on-site interview after 1 month. The interview starts with a very easy math and logic test. I am then given a few one on one interview. Most of the people are recent graduate and has just worked there for 1 year.

Interview Question – I was not asked any difficult questions. Most of the questions are about why I want to work here, which projects will I be interested. however, the last interviewer told me that this isn't such as much statistical modeling as I thought in the job, and this might not suit me.   Answer Question

Problem with this interview?

Quantitative Research Analyst-Statistical Programmer at Acumen

No Offer – Interviewed in Burlingame, CA May 2012 – Reviewed Jun 4, 2012

Interview Details – Submitted an application online as was contacted within 1 week to schedule phone interview. Phone interview was easy. The interviewers are not part of human resources, did not ask typical behavior based questions. For example, was asked to elaborate on my experience in a math course I was enrolled in. Additional questions include, what is the most difficulty project you have been involved in and why.

The onsite interview consisted of a 1 hour lunch meeting with two analyst, paid by Acumen.
The logic test should not be a problem for any individual who has taken a logic course/ math reasoning.
There is a total of 4 interviews, 30 minutes in length. The 1st interview the most difficult, meet with a senior analyst and was given a case interview. The remaining 3 interviews were relatively easy. When asked a question, provide as many details as possible. Once again, interviewers are analyst not from HR. The interviewers spent a fair amount of the time discussing their projects, so the 30 minute interview can quickly shrink to 15 minutes of actual interviewing. It is vital you use that limited time to sell your abilities to the company.
