Interviewed Mar 2011 in Detroit, MI (took 1 week)
Initially had a phone interview with an internal recruiter, which was very basic. Next, they invited me in on a Friday to meet with a few managers. Then, they brought me back in the following Friday to meet with some directors and a vice president. I received an offer the following Tuesday.
Much of the interview process was explaining experience, education, and future career goals. I considered it fairly basic.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 3 days)
Got the interview through a staffing agency. I interviewed with about 5 different people, all of them asked similar questions with slightly different angles. The questions were mainly behavioral and related to how I would fit in, and what I could provide. It was a fairly informal interview in comparison to others I've done. Most questions were really open ended, so make sure you can talk about yourself and your skills.

Interviewed May 2009 (took 4+ weeks)
First I had a phone interview with HR. Then a 2 person interview and lastly I had a 3 person group interview. They played good cop bad cop on the last one. Found out after the fact they were looking to make you flustered as everyone they hired went through a similar interview. Did get to fly around the country for free.
Ally has gone through alot since it switched from GMAC. The pay structure changes every year and it seems like they keep "reinventing themselves".
Good benefits but not the same company it was before the govt buyout.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Detroit, MI (took 2 months)
Thew interview did not seem to be for a specific position or team, so it was hard to solicit specifics about the position that I would eventually be hired for. This also lead to a lack of ownership for the interview process. On the positive side, I was able to meet with managers and employees from several teams and was considered for at least 3 different teams. Once I began work, this process also gave me important contacts on other teams, which was important for me trying to adapt to a new company.
People were very friendly and asked informed questions. There was no standard interview process. Though the process seemed a little unorganized, I came to find out there was a lot of communication between interviewers after the interview was finished. They had a better idea than most of what they were looking for, but could have done a better job preparing.

Negotiation Details
Short negotiation phase, not much seemed negotiable. The offer seamed formulaic and benefits package is standard. Sign-on bonus was the only point they seemed willing to negotiate on.

The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Skills Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Southfield, MI (took a day)
Worked primarily with an ACAS prior to coming in to interview. Had four 1:1 interviews with staff members, and was taken out to lunch as well. Very casual atmosphere and positive interview experience. Never heard back from the in person interview.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Jacksonville, FL (took 2 weeks)
The interviewer was very polite. She asked a few questions about my past experience & my ability to work unlimited overtime. I'm not able to do so right now because I'm enrolled in school. So, I admit that I wasn't the best fit for the job.
