If you get through this storm then one or two phone interviews from global locations. If you sail through all this then you will get an offer letter. Process takes atleast 3-4 months.

    Interview

Asked some tree-based questions and questions on arrays. It was not that difficult if you prepare well in advance. Had 3 rounds of onsite interview and I didn't do well in the 2nd round maybe because of which I didn't get the offer.

    Software Development Engineer II Interview

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 dayinterviewed at Amazon India (Bangalore (India)) in June 2015.

    Interview

No phone interview. We were directly called to the Amazon office. The recruiter initially gave a long list of topics to prepare for and later told me they'd be focussing only on arrays, lists, BST's, hashmaps. They even offered to send a cab to pick me up and in the interview conference room, he told a guy that "your flight has been booked". They actually make all the transport arrangements for you for free. First, remember that you have to bring your ID card and/or show your interview email on your mobile, otherwise security at Brigade won't let you in. Then go to the Amazon reception desk at the ground floor itself and they'll give you an entry pass. Take the lift, go to the 28th floor and the receptionist will give you a separate interview pass. You'll have to wait half an hour or more for the interviewers to come to office and start the interviews. You may think you're the only one for the interview, but there will be at least 30 other candidates. Interview consists of 4 rounds. No separate HR round. First round is a coding round where they give you an algorithm problem from geeksforgeeks.com. You have to solve it on paper and/or the whiteboard. Then there is a design round where you're asked to design a catalog system for Amazon, or a paintbrush program design etc. I didn't get through beyond this round, but as the recruiter had briefed us in the beginning of the interview, I'm sure the other two rounds would have been about grilling questions on the e-commerce platform and the underlying technologies. Because for the position of senior engineer, you have to be aware of all the intricacies of how an e-commerce system works.
The interview is conducted by people who do their best to make you feel comfortable. They're very friendly, they give hints if you're stuck and basically just allow you to focus on solving the problem.
Oh one more thing. They are not just evaluating your technical ability. They also check to see if you are the kind of person they would like to work with everyday. So even if you solve all problems correctly, if they feel that you don't really fit into the culture, you won't get an offer. The recruiter had mentioned that they would be keenly looking for behavioural traits during the interview. They'd ask you what are the biggest challenges or mistakes you did and how did you solve it etc.

    Interview Questions

    • Given a BST, find all pairs of nodes which add up to a certain number k.   Answer Question
    • Given a stack of numbers, how would you find the number with the maximum value in O(1). You're allowed to use as much of a space complexity as you want.   Answer Question

    Application

The process took 3+ monthsinterviewed at Amazon India.

    Interview

Interview consisted of Nine rounds, First round was online screening, after 2 weeks I got call for second telephonic round and third was again telephonic and happened immediate next day, after that there was lull for almost month and half, last six round were on campus.

    Interview Questions

    • Scenario based questions, similar questions were asked by most of interviewers with different twists and situations, each round was of 45 minutes to 1 hour

Tea breaks and lunch break was provided in between. The last six rounds happened on same day, it gets pretty tiring, interviewers don't give much feedback, so one never knows how she\he is doing.

Interviewers will take notes while asking questions and will record every word.
