Interviewed May 2008 (took 2 weeks)
A company employee gave me the lead on who to contact in order to get my foot in the door. Made the initial contact with the person in charge of hiring. 1st face to face interview did not result in a job offer - none available at the time. The employer stated that they would hold the resume on file and contact me if an opening came available. A few months later I received a call indicating that the company was looking for someone to fill a recently created position in the company in a city near to my residence. I accepted the offer. The Senior Surveyors and Port Principals are very knowledgeable about surveying. Sometimes managers are better at managing people via e-mail and text rather than in person. Smaller port offices are located near the port and the company provides a comfortable work environment. There is a healthy mix of professional competition and levity within the office. Most work is conducted in the field.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
The negotiation of salary was fairly limited to a predetermined range. Do your homework on what other competing similar companies provide. Seriously consider your re-location options in the short-term and future because that will play heavily into future advancement with the company.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.
