Interviewed Apr 2011 in Minneapolis, MN (took 4 days)
Simple, go thru interview with HR, pass an aptitude test, then do a face to face interview with a sales manager. Its all about past leadership and how you performed in different environments. Pretty simple process.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took 6 weeks)
The problem with most hiring leaders in Ameriprise is their timid approach to hiring. Most leaders don't look for potential or aptitude, simply work experience. The problem is that my managers withing Clearing were secretive and didn't give me opportunities for more responsibilities, even when I asked for it.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took 3 days)
I was contacted by a recruiter who had seen my resume on Monster.com, and she sent me a personality profile assessment that I completed online. I was contacted the following day and asked to come in to the office and take a cognitive assessment. It was a 20 question multiple-choice exam and a candidate must get at least 12 correct to be considered for the job. I got 18/20 right (the test is difficult but dont overthink the questions). After that, I had a 1-on-1 interview with the recruiter. The following day I had another 1-on-1 interview with one of the sales managers, and about 20 minutes after the interview ended I received a call from the recruiter and I was offered the position.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Minneapolis, MN (took 4+ weeks)
No phone interview or pre-screen by HR. I got an email from the HR person requesting writing samples. After sending them in, I was asked to come in and interview with the hiring manager in person. I ended up having to come in 4 different times for interviews with various people. Interviews were always short -- 30 - 45 minutes each. Really could have done all the interviews in two times to save on my parking costs and time - but the people interviewing had schedule issues. It is a large company with lots of opportunity. However, be prepared to work well above 40 hours per week.

Interviewed Mar 2009 in Minneapolis, MN (took 2 weeks)
It consists of two computer based testings, one quantitative and the other phychological. I passed both and they brought me in for the face to face interview which lasted about 2 hours. They offered the job the next day. It was clean and obvious that I had what they were looking for and I was impressed with the strait forwardness.
