Interviewed Jun 2010 in Greensboro, NC (took 2 days)
I applied online and called to set up an interview. The first interview was a group interview with about 4 people total. Basic questions about your work experience and situational questions. I was called back to a second interview which was one on one. These questions were about knowledge of merchandising and more situational and work experience questions. Everyone was very nice in the interview process. I didn't get an offer because I could only work seasonally and they were looking for someone more long-term.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took a day)
The interview was very easy and private with the store manager. The store manager made me feel very comfortable. She made it very clear from the beginning that Ann Taylor only hires exceptional people. She introduced me to the co-manager so that she could ask me questions. They made me an offer on the spot. Just make sure you are up to date on what's in that season with fashion, be able to describe the AT brand well and be flexible with your availability.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 6 days)
I saw an AT careers sign in the window so I went inside to ask what positions were available and how I should apply. They directed me to the website to fill out a profile and take the assessment test, then bring in my resume and fill out an application. I went online but couldn't find any position listings for the store so the next day I went back to get an application and ask the managers what to do. They didn't seem to understand that I couldn't take the test because there was no job listed to apply for. Finally I got the link to the assessment and was able to take it, submitted a profile, and turned my resume and application in. I received a call to interview a few days later. I thought I was going to be there for about 15-30 min. but ended up being there for about 1 1/2 hours. She asked me questions about my experience etc, and then I had to do a "style challenge' where I pulled outfits for 3 potential clients. It was pretty easy but they want you to pull as much merchandise as possible, like jewelery, shoes, scarves, etc. Before I left she scheduled a 2nd interview with the manager for the next week. I went back for the second interview but the manager talked to me for about 10 minutes and then said she would like to offer me the position. She made no mention of salary so I had to ask, and even then they only went with the minimum of what I had requested on my application. I told her I would like some time to consider her offer and would get back to her.

Reason for Declining
I declined because in my first interview I was told about how they expect you to keep client books, making style appointments, etc, but I have worked in luxury retail and the people I saw shopping there are not the type of people who go for that type of service, so I felt "client building" would be difficult. After reading reviews on this website I asked how hours were determined and how many they could guarantee me, because ideally I wanted full time hours (I was told that they ONLY hire part time); the manager did in fact tell me that hours were based on PRODUCTIVITY (are you kidding??!!) meaning sales and CC applications, so the better I do the more hours I could get. I would be starting out less than 20hrs/week. She even asked me how I was about talking to people about opening credit cards. I also didn't like that even though your hours are based on productivity you aren't on commission so all of your sales go to the team effort, yet if you don't meet your personal goal you still look bad and get reduced hours.
