Interviewed Apr 2011 in Tulalip, WA (took a day)
Applied online for a store which was going to open in May 2011 in February 2011, the online application process requires a personality test which is very time consuming. I didn't hear anything for months (assumed I didn't meet the requirements) then, suddenly one day in April I get a call from Phung Sola asking me for an interview. I interviewed with her and was asked all the standard interview questions. She also had me do a "wardrobing test" where she had me go to the sales floor and pick one piece to build 3 outfits around.
On the initial phone call she indicated that I had scored exceptionally high on the management benchmark and she wanted to discuss management opportunities with me. During the interview she pretended like she had never said that.

Negotiation Details
Was unable to negotiate, needed the job so I took the offered payment. Based on having worked there a year, I would recommend trying to negotiate. If you're low balled ($9 is low for an associate in Washington), request a review and raise in WRITING based on performance after 3 months. This could help you protect yourself in case you become one of the top performers.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Boston, MA (took 2 days)
I first had to complete a rather long gallop poll online which was a personality test. I must have done very well on it as I was called right in for a one on one interview.
The interview for this retail position was a bit longer and more in depth than other retail interviews that I've been on. I was asked what my impressions of Ann Taylor were, how they might have changed from in the past, who my favorite designers were and why, I was also asked about how I treated customers,

Negotiation Details
Yes. I was able to get more than they typically offer based on my previous experience. The co-manager I interviewed with had to get permission from the store manager for me to receive the higher hourly pay, but this was not a problem.

Interviewed May 2010 in Augusta, GA (took 1 week)
Casually mentioned that I was looking for a summer job while shopping in Ann Taylor LOFT one day. The co-manager on duty responded positively, gave me the application to fill out and return at my leisure. I returned the application the next day. I was called in for a 1:1 interview which went well. Was offered the position and accepted.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 1+ week)
I submitted my application on a Friday and was told to call back the next day on Saturday to speak with the manager who wasn't in at the time. I called back on Saturday and spoke to the manager. She did not seem to want to take my call and she informed me she only dealt with new hires Monday through Friday and that if she was interested she would call me back. I figured I would never hear from them again but a few days later I received a call from the assistant manager who wanted to interview me the next day. The interview went really well and she scheduled an interview a few days later for me to meet with the manager. The day of the interview the manager called and told me my availability would not work for her when the assistant manager said my availability was exactly what they needed. She canceled the interview as I was walking out the door to meet her. I was shocked at her behavior.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 2 weeks)
everything seemed lovely at first, especially the demeanor of the manager and the rest of the team. however, once i got the job and had worked there for a couple of months, things began to slowly degrade to the point of no return. personalites began to clash, micromanaging became the focus of the co-manager, in particular, and the pressure to open credit cards was enormous and insurmountable.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
I received a call three days after I applied online. The lady asked my about my experience in retail even though she had my resume in front of her. She liked what I was saying so she invited me to a group interview. So two days past, I want to the group interview. She informed me right away when I saw her that she had pink eye so shaking hands was out of the question. I filled out a job application first (even though I did this online). What a waste of time and the store had no AC. I was sweating because I had to walk far. As far as the group interview goes be prepared to talk about how your style had evolved over the past 10 years, your style icon, your favorite designer/store, and what to you want to gain by working for AT/why do you want to work for AT?. The interview went well I thought. Every got alone and everyone was involved. She also talked about how they went wrong in the hiring process with current employees and when the company expands, they won't be apart of it because they weren't giving the best service possible and because of how they camed dressed to work. Anyway, she said in a couple days she would call if anyone of us got a second interview. If not, thanks for your time. It was a waste of time for me, but if you have an interview, good luck.
