Accepted Offer – Reviewed Jun 4, 2013 New

Interview Details – I applied online and got an email the next day to come in for an interview. The first interview was with 10 other people where we would just answer the questions by turns. That same night, they emailed me a personality test regarding how you would deal with shoplifting and drugs. A week and a half after that, I got called in for a second interview with 3 other people where we had got a hypothetical client to dress up. A few days after that I was offered the position. It was a pretty chill experience, but it just took too long.

Part Time Sales Associate at Anthropologie

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Jan 2013 – Reviewed May 17, 2013

Interview Details – I called the store to request an interview from a manager. The manager asked me to come in the following morning and I was really excited about that. The manager asked me questions about what my goals in life are, if I follow any fashion blogs/websites, my most memorable customer service experience, what celebrities remind me of Anthropologie, what I think the Anthro culture is, and my first experience in an Anthro. The manager asked me to fill out an online questionnaire and that she would contact me following my submission of the questionnaire. I was hired in the same day that I interviewed and started working two weeks later.

Interview Question – The managers are very welcoming and didn't make me feel unpleasant with any questions.   Answer Question

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Boca Raton, FL May 2012 – Reviewed May 10, 2013

Interview Details – Submitted a resume online that explained that I was a creative person. I was told to take a survey online after attending my first interview which entailed general questions about myself. I went in for an 2nd interview and was asked questions based on how I would act if given certain situations such as if a customer asks what to pair with a certain item or what to say to a customer who is having trouble finding an item. I was then asked to go around the store and put together a gift that a mother could give to a daughter as a housewarming gift and explain why I choose those items.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Sep 2011 – Reviewed Jan 17, 2013

Interview Details – Group interview for open hires, on the spot interview for walk ins. They look for cute, happy friendly faces with a flattering looking fashion sense. They expect a kind demeanor and will hire you if you keep it consistent and are easy to communicate to. I had no experience in the work play and no education and was fresh out of high school. All the other people in my group interview had both but I was the only one smiling and was more eager to answer the questions than they were.

Interview Question – What brands do we carry? Look on the website
What celebrity represents our brand most? Zooey Deschanel
What age group do we sell to? 20s to 30s

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Myrtle Beach, SC Nov 2011 – Reviewed Oct 18, 2012

Interview Details – Very weird group interview. Each question is asked to the group and is not directed to any one applicant. There is an awkward pause and then everyone starts to speak at once. It is like a cattle call. You are told to show up for an interview and then arrive to see a group of people who got the same call. You never get one on one time to ask any questions or to shine as an individual..

Interview Question – You are given a mock customer and you have five minutes to put together an outfit for that customer. Take time to walk the store before the interview to look at what looks are available.   Answer Question

No Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Aug 2012 – Reviewed Sep 23, 2012

Interview Details – I am an avid Anthropologie shopper, so the main reason why applied was probably an employee discount. They have open interviews every Thursday, so I just walked, filled out the application, and was interviewed right away with the group of two other girls. All the questions were pretty easy and predictable (Why anthro? Who is the typical anthro woman? etc. No luck though. May be I'll try again in a couple months. P.S.I would suggest to wear one or two pieces of anthro clothes if you decided to visit their open hire.

Part Time Sales Associate at Anthropologie

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Palo Alto, CA – Reviewed Sep 18, 2012

Interview Details – I went in on a Monday to grab an application for a open interview session that following Wednesday. In order to get a good idea of what apparel and merchandise the store was offering I spent about an hour looking around the store and looking for specific outfits that I liked in case during the interview they asked me to showcase an outfit for a particular event.

On Wednesday I came in with my application filled out and resume. I arrived 15 minutes early and was able to again browse the store while I waited for the manager to start our interview. Because the store was relatively busy, we ended up taking a seat in the bedding area of the store. I had read up on all of the Glassdoor interview reviews so I had felt overly prepared for any question my interviewer might ask. The interview itself was very relaxed and we talked about everything from my past internships to the woman being newly married. It reminded me a lot of sorority recruitment, where the interviewer was asking questions that appeared to be just friendly small talk, but also gave insight to a person's lifestyle. One question she did ask was "What other stores did I shop at" and "What did I appreciate most about Anthropologie's shopping environment?" We talked for about 15 minutes and then she gave me a slip of paper that had the URL and pass code to their online personality survey which I took later that night.

Two weeks later I received a call asking me to come in and interview with another manager. I came in and that interview was even shorter than the first one. It was less of them interviewing me and more of the manager explaining their philosophy and the way the store is run. At the end of the interview she offered me a position.

If you at least skim these interview questions on this site you will be more than ready for the interview and I recommend you to wear at least one article of clothing from the store. The first time I wore a shirt and the second interview I wore a dress and both times the managers complimented my style choices and said they remembered seeing those items in the store.

Interview Question – What is the average time a customer spends browsing the store?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No negotiation about price, but flexible with schedule

Part Time Sales Associate at Anthropologie

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Tualatin, OR May 2012 – Reviewed Aug 28, 2012

Interview Details – This was a group interview of about 20 people, all different ages. We had to answer basic questions about who we are, who the Anthro shopper is and then had to pick an outfit and a gift for a scenario and explain why we chose it.
Everyone was dressed in Anthropologie type clothing. I would suggest chosing at least one piece from the store and mixing it with other things you own to show you are creative and not trying to be an Anthro catalog.
Me and 4 others were hired out of that group. We were called immediately and started training the next week. Up to this point, I can say it was all positive and not that difficult.
Unfortunately, that's where the good story ends. The training was completely inadequate and then they put us On Call for the entire summer. Anthopologie abuses On Call shifts worse than any other I've seen. They lie up front and tell you that you'll get 5-10 hours per week with an occasional On Call shift. The truth is, they make you sit On Call 4 or 5 days per week. You can't make any other plans for your day until you call them 2 hours before your shift. In the 3 months I worked there, they only used me a total of 6 shifts. Part time employees are only used if sales are high enough. If they're not, they won't use you for months at a time, but your time is still theirs with On Call shifts. Not one person was up front about this when I was hired, so be very careful if you want to work here. Once I started reading other employee reviews, I realized that this is a company wide practice. They have to decieve people this way to get the big excess of disposable employees that they want. Turnover here is really high too. In the 3 months I worked there, several people left, including the manager that hired me and her friend who was hired the same day as me. Very deceptive all the way around.

Interview Question – how would you prevent store theft?   Answer Question

Part Time Sales Associate at Anthropologie

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in San Francisco, CA Jul 2012 – Reviewed Aug 1, 2012

Interview Details – I decided to attend one of their open call interview sessions that they have occasionally. I walked in, filled out an app, and then signed in. It involved a one-on-one interview with a super sweet girl. She was a bit serious at first, but after awhile of her asking questions we started chatting as if we were girlfriends out getting a cup of coffee. The questions were your average interview ones; name a time where you upset a customer and how you handled it, why do you want to work at anthropologie, what do you do in your spare time etc. Basic questions where if you've been to an interview before you should have a pretty good answer already.

The store is huge on their "culture". I'm obsessed with their house ware and cookbooks so I spent a lot of time raving on that. Essentially, if you actually like their store and their style, you'll have no problem selling yourself. Just be confident, friendly, energetic, and outgoing. Be sure to dress up too! Embody the Anthropologie girl in every aspect. I tied in the store with my lifestyle, memories, etc and explained that the store is more than just retail but an experience.

After about 10 minutes of chatting and even joking around, she grabbed a piece of paper and asked me to fill out a survey as soon as I could so we could move forward.

The survey was around 68 questions and takes about 20 minutes. A lot of the questions are focused on stealing, drugs, and basically poor employee behavior.

A couple days later I got a call for a second interview. This second interview was also one-on-one but with someone else. She was really friendly and asked a LOT of questions about how to handle LP (loss prevention) mentioning that out of the whole Urban company, Anthropologie has the biggest problem both externally and internally. So be sure to brush up on how to handle those situations.

10 minutes later she told me that she'll let me know in a week if they decide to move forward with me and offer me a position at the company. Needless to say, when they called the next day to extend an offer I took it up right away. All the employees seem very kind there and the managers are extremely friendly.

NOTES: It had been about 3 years since I had my last retail job, where I worked at for over a year. I was worried that I didn't have enough retail experience (especially since the store I worked at has a very different style than Anthropologie), but as long as you can show that you have a lot of experience with customer service (be it as a front desk receptionist, a volunteer, etc) you should be golden. Also, as long as you look and act like an Anthropologie girl and have great people/communication skills, you have a pretty good shot. Just having customer service experience doesn't mean you're good at it; so be sure to show them how friendly and approachable you are during the interview.

Interview Questions

Negotiation Details – Didn't negotiate because a sales associate is an entry level job after all. Was told there would be plenty of room for growth anyways so I'll just work for a raise.
