Interviewed Nov 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
I applied online without expecting anything to happen. A week or two later I received a call from a hiring manager from a particular store in my area, asking if any other Apple recruiters had contacted me and if I would be interested in interviewing for his store. I had not been contacted by anyone else and agreed to an on-the-spot phone interview. The phone interview lasted about 30 minutes and it went well. He asked me about my previous work experience and a few personality gauging questions, then offered me an in person interview the following week.
The next interview was not what I expected; I was interviewing along with another candidate. It was a little awkward at first but I'm a competitive person so I think it actually helped me in the interview to be better than the guy next to me. I beat out the competition and moved on to the next round of interviews.
In all, I went through 5 interviews to get the job. The first and last interviews were the easiest as the managers were simply gauging me as a person and what I would bring to Apple as an individual with my own interests. All of the interviews were conducted by my current store managers, with exception of the last interview. The last was conducted by the regional manager. Oh, and all of the interviews were competitive, group interviews, ranging from a group of 2-5 candidates.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
One of my past coworkers knew someone at Apple so he asked her to refer me.monce she did that, I received an email that Apple hiring recruiter had pulled my application and would be calling me soon for a phone interview. The interview was pretty easy with simple questions like "qdescribe a time in the past where you couldn't resolve a customer's problem" and I was even asked what apple products I own/have experience with. They told me it wasnt important to have experience, because they could easily train that kind of stuff, but it was more for questioning. At the end of the phone interview they asked me to come into the store for a group interview a few days later.
The interview day came up and when I got there I was told to sit with the other interviewees, 2 other guys. Once the 2 store leaders were ready, they walked us down to a Starbucks in the mall and we began by getting to know a little about each other (it was very casual). We were each asked what our favorite iLife application was, and how to do several operations in each program. We were also asked how we would describe spend a day off from any kind of responsibility, what we would say to a customer that had no idea what a Mac was, and one of the store leaders pretended to be a customer and told us to sell her something,
An hour after my first interview I got a call from the recruiter asking for another interview already, so we scheduled that one for a few days later. I had to drive to another apple store due to the normal interviewer being gone, but this interview went well. It was set up the same way with 2 other people interviewing with me, but only one interviewer this time. She mostly talked about herself and apple the whole time, and barely asked us anything. The few questions she did ask we're very simple. A few days later I got a call from the recruiter saying that interview went well and that all she needed was my background check, which unfortunately didn't come in time for the first round of training (August 12th, 2011) because she called the day before, so she called the middle of the next week and said my background check came in and officially offered me the job, and that I would start training September 9th and start work it he store September 12th.
Overall it was a very easy process, and I only went through 2 interviews plus a phone interview. From what I have heard most people go through 4 or 5 interviews in addition to the phone interview.
Advice: Always smile, show how much you care about the customer, and don't be afraid to tell them you have no experience with their products. One of the store managers in my first interview said she was hired with no computer experience 5 years ago.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took a day)
I had applied on the Apple website about a year and a half before I was contacted by an Apple recruiter. I don't know of any way to speed up the process--it's very mysterious to me.
Apple called this a seminar--it was held in a hotel meeting room in Sandy Springs, three groups of about 20 each in a day cut into three sessions. We were told to dress casually in black.
First they had the whole group watch a movie about working in an Apple store, then we introduced ourselves and said why we wanted to work for Apple. Then we were divided into smaller groups of four and one of the recruiters asked us questions, telling us that we didn't have to know the answers, but they were really looking for good "Apple" people.
Next we were broken down into groups of two and were asked questions about how we would handle problems in the store, what our greatest strength, how we would upsell Applecare, stuff like that. Next we were put back into our original group of four and were asked trick questions.
My group was uber competitive--with this economy, everyone there was visibly nervous about finding a job. People kept bragging about their technical prowess or dropping names of other people they knew who worked in a certain store. They didn't seem like friendly Apple people to me and more like IT folks, in actuality. I felt really intimidated and didn't present myself well, obviously. I've reapplied but doubt I'll get another chance.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
Phone interview, 3 separate interviews, first two with one person the final was a panel interview. I think they thought they were asking me hard, earth shattering questions, but it was really silly. They care more about the culture and what everyone looks like rather than what you can do for them as a store manager.

Interviewed Sep 2007 in Atlanta, GA (took 3 days)
The initial communications were challenging. It was difficult to rise above the pack because the company insists you contact them through the web site. I was completely ignored and given the cold shoulder at numerous locations in another state; finally a recruiter contacted me. But it was for a location 50 miles out of my way. After being flagged by the recruiter, I had better luck when I went in person into the location I wanted to work at. The rest of the process was long and bogged down in procedure - especially annoying when it got to the background check. I ended up doing all the work providing details (such as a copy of my diploma from over ten years ago, hahaha) for the third-party company that was to check my background.
