Interviewed Oct 2010 in Los Angeles, CA (took 2 days)
Huge waste of time. You won't get hired unless you fit into "apples culture/personality". Did not have a 1:1 interview even though I was scheduled to and promised one. Group panel interview was just a waste of time and $10 dollars since I had to pay to park twice.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Los Angeles, CA (took 2 days)
I had a friend that works for Apple refer me to work for the company, so I went online and created my profile, submitted my interest to work at numerous locations and then got an email back about 3-4 days later asking me to atten an "invitation only hiring event." I RSVP'd, and went to the group seminar. It was 2 hours long, there were about 20 of us in the room, and 3 managers from the store present. They showed us a Keynote presentation about working at Apple and what different positions there are within the store and things of that nature. We then had to turn to our neighbor and find out some things about them: their name, where they currently work, why they want to work for Apple, and an interesting fact about them. After everyone had gone though introductions, we then had to pair up into groups that had nametags with similar Apple products on them and think of a creative way to tell the group about our product and how it's features would benefit people. After all the presentations, they opened up to a Q&A, and advise they would email you I they chose you to proceed on to round two: the group interview. I got my invite back the next morning!! Went to the store again, this time only 6 of us were there with 3 managers asking us all interview style questions... Each person had to answer each question, and it only lasted about an hour. They them advised that if they chose you to go on to the final round, you'd be contacted once more. Half an hour later, I received an email stating they were going with another candidate... :(

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Los Angeles, CA (took 2 weeks)
I went through one phone interview, one 1:1 interview, and one group interview... I was lucky, many of my coworkers had 5 interviews. The interviews are very relaxed and they will ask you why Apple? How have you overcome difficulties/challenges in your past? and many other standard interview questions. Nothing unexpected

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Cerritos, CA (took 2 weeks)
So I first applied online for multiple positions at Apple Retail. I herd that everyone usually has to start as a "Mac Specialist" and then work up the food chain. A couple of days later, I got an e-mail from the hiring manager at the Apple Store notifying to attend a "Invitation-Only Recruiting Seminar". So the next day, I attended the seminar. In addition to myself, approximately 25 other candidates were there plus 3 Apple Store Managers. We were escorted to a room with seats and a projector. We then had to listen to the Mangers introduce themselves. We then introduced ourselves in front of the other candidates and the Mangers. We then watched these two videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1RbZLq3xko
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMi-rGmU9qw
After each video, we were asked what we liked about the videos and to add comments about them. (This is your time to basically show that you aren't afraid to talk in front of people and are willing to speak out!, So don't be shy). After a back and forth conversation we were then told that we had to prepare a mini-presentation with a person sitting next to us (Nothing to big, no boards or anything, just speaking in front of everyone). We were given small cards with statements that customers would say when they walked into an Apple Store. We were asked to act out, what we would do when asked these statements. And basically that was it. We then just had to answer basic questions about availability and which Apple products we currently used. We were then told that if they wanted to pursue us as a candidate, then we would get a call back for a one-on-one interview. Took about 1 hour and half. Piece of cake!
That same day, I got a call back form the Manager asking me if we could meet for a one-on-one interview the next day. I gladly accepted and went to the interview. When I went to the interview I thought I had to meet with only one person, but ended up talking to two different managers. One manager asked me questions like "Why do you want to work at Apple?" and "How would you handle multiple customers in the store?" (basically background info and what you can provide for the Apple Store. The other manger asked me all questions about which Apple products I use and explain some others in detail. Took about 30 minutes! Then I was told that I would be receiving a call in the next week notifying me if they wanted to either hire me, ask for another interview, or pass on me.
And Exactly a week later, I got a call and was told that I got the Job!

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Hollywood, CA (took 3 weeks)
I received a call from Apple that was a short interview in itself, after which I was invited to a Group Interview. In the Group interview we had to introduce ourselves, perform a 5-mintue skit and provide our availability.
Several days later I was invited for a second interview a 1:1. It was extremely casual taking place at some tables outside. Questions were very typical and it was very friendly.
Once again, several days later I was contacted for an interview with the general manager. The interview was almost exactly the same as the one before and lasted about 20-30 minutes. It was very informal and relaxed.
Overall I would say to just be yourself and don't try and be anything you're not...they'll read right through that.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Costa Mesa, CA (took a day)
I applied online and a manager gave me a call the next day. Went in for the interview which was 1:1 and was asked a bunch of questions. She then said it would be a 3 part interview and that if I made it through this round i would talk to another manager. I made it through the round and am scheduling another interview with them for tomorrow.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Irvine, CA (took 2 weeks)
When I was interviewed with Apple, I met with both the manager and an assistant manager at the same time. I was asked questions like, "why do you want to work at Apple," "what is your overall goal at Apple," along with questions about experience, like, "describe your most stressful work situation, and how you handled it." The interview process was very friendly, very open and I felt comfortable answering all of their questions. This was my second Apple interview, so I kind of knew what to expect. If you get an interview with Apple, just be yourself because you can't really impress them; they already know the type of person they're going to hire.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Los Angeles, CA (took a day)
Was called in for interview within 2 days after online application. Was instructed to go to the Apple store in Pasadena on a Sunday @ 7pm. 20 applicants attended with two managers doing company orientation. They asked us to introduce the person next to us then followed by group product presentation. The managers informed us that they are looking for applicants who will fit the 'Apple culture' meaning hip, friendly and will make customers comfortable upon entering the store. Should be able to present products in a non-intimidating way - in short laymen terms. Afterward, we were asked to fill in an information sheet which includes T-shirt size and hours of availability. The presentation was fun but nerve wracking at the same time because the managers are doing score sheets and you can see their facial expressions when you did a good job or you suck. The process went on for 2 hours - I was tired and hungry after LOL

Ridiculous interview in a mall food court
For the worlds most admired company, I was blown away by their overly casual attitude
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it, but c'mon...I still want to be professional and its hard to answer their 3hrs of interview questions with screaming kids, parents and the smell of fried food.
Seriously, how can Apple hire managers from Williams Sonoma, Gap and Starbucks to sell technology solutions to customers? Makes no sense...and even worse, the managers constantly joke they know nothing about the products; very tacky! Yes, the aforementioned companies are great at merchandising and creating a great experience, but they do not "Sell"; people walk in and know what they want. This is the trap Apple is falling into. A store full of arrogant retail snobs who know nothing about overcoming objections or asking for the sale.
The district managers are just as bad, always on their iphones interrupting the interview and putting out fires...whatever...i know how field mgmt works, they have it easy, mon-fri half days usually. My old District Manager would stop by for 1 hr per week and then go off to take care of his bratty kids the rest of the day.
For a company that prides itself on diversity, I saw no people of color in mgmt ranks...EVERYONE was white, blonde and tanned. LIKE, OH MY GOSH! Honestly, the worker bees are diverse, but all the managers are white as can be.
Anyways, enough ranting, standard interview questions and each person seems to ask the SAME question as their counterparts but only in different manner. Very boring and I had to push myself to stay focused past their repetition, stupid jokes, loud environment and senseless small talk (who cares what your favorite food is?)
I would agree that Apple is incredible; great brand w/ great products and their stores are THE retail experience to beat, but how long will this last? It seems like their customer segment is already saturated. I mean, c'mon, how many ipods can a person buy every few years?
I really see Apple retail hitting hard times in the next 3-5 yrs. They are too mgmt heavy and focus too much on creating a fun atmosphere vs selling solutions to customers. I saw five customers leave with no bags and just knew they would be going to Best Buy or Wal Mart to purchase the item the rep spent 30min talking to them about.
