Interviewed Jul 2010 in Arlington, VA (took 1+ week)
Very comfortable and suprisingly pleasant experience. Not a fan of interviews, but who is. Regardless, this was a very painless experience. I felt very welcomed and enjoyed speaking to every Archstone associate I encountered along the way. I would recommend that every applicant review their website as in depth as possible.

I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Skills Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Feb 2008 in Washington, DC (took 3 months)
9 times out of 10 you will only get the job if you know someone who works there. Thats the only reason they kept me going in the interview and onboarding process. I had to continually follow up with them. Everyone was disorganized. I was only applying for part time weekend position and I had to do 10 drug tests in the process of three months after I got the job offer. Every time I showed up for an interview it seemed like it was a suprise to everyone who was interviewing me. Felt like every person that was meeting me made their decision to hire me because they were attracted to me, not because they listened to anything I said. Did not have any experience in real estate or with any other property management company or hotel, but they say that to people they don't think are attractive enough to work there. Archstone is very about your appearance-- which I later learned after working for the company...sort of like how Abercrombie and Fitch only invites you to apply for a position there when they see you shopping in the store. You have to have a certain look.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in San Diego, CA (took a day)
I was given a short phone interview the day before. I was asked general questions about myself such as strengths and weaknesses and past experience. I made it to the 2nd round where they placed a large emphasis on customer service. The people who interviewed me were very nice and outspoken about the company.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 3 weeks)
Phone Interview with Recruiting was professional, company info and answers to my questions about position and company provided. Good follow up from Recruiter in scheduling 1:1 interview. Online Personality test administered, that didn't seem job relevant. In person 1:1 seemed rushed & disorganized.

Interviewed May 2008 (took 4 days)
It was professional just like any great company out there. I think that they ook the right amunt of time t hire me about a week. Also I got to visit all of the properties and was impressed. One thing you should do when you go to an interview is ask questions, know infrmation about the company, take notes, look professional, speak correct depending on what position you are going for.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 1+ week)
The job posting indicated that "Prior experience in the Real Estate industry is preferred, but not required." After having clearly discussed this statement with the recruiter (who again indicated that experience in their industry was not required), I reluctantly accepted an on site interview. My concern was that Real Estate industry experience was highly desired. Turns out it was required and I wasted my time and efforts going to the interview. The company really focused the interview on experience in this area. The person who conducted the interview lacked interviewing skills and did not come across as being professional or polished with the "ad hoc" questioning.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took a day)
Usually interviews open up with the interviewer telling you a bit about what to expect from the job you applied to. This interview opened up with questions from the start. I didn't feel at ease at all to be quite honest with you and the questions were very specific for a first interview. Make sure you have some sales background and you can give examples of having sales goals and how you reached or surpassed them.
Also, you must be very clear when relating stories of how you have served customers in the past. Make sure you have specific examples to give. I don't know if it's standard that they jump right in with the questions, but expect them to. The online interview scheduler is great, so make sure you choose a time that you will be very alert and ready to answer questions. My phone interview lasted at least 30 minutes.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in Alexandria, VA (took 3 weeks)
I was contacted my their in-house recruiter who found my resume online. The recruiter was initially very fast to get back to me, and conducted an initial phone interview. Following the phone interview, he asked that I complete a online skills/IQ/Background test. I found the test to be extremely lengthy and required you to really focus. (A lot of SAT like questions, including math and vocabulary) Almost immediately after completing the assessment, he called back and conducted another phone interview. I was very impressed by their quick response. He scheduled an in person interview for two weeks later. Their office was pretty empty, and seemed almost vacant. I was told that I would meet with an area manager, but upon arriving I was told that it would be a panel interview including the VP as well. The interview took about an hour, but it was mostly involved them talking about other people within the company. I was not able to explain my experience much, and felt that it was a little out of the norm. They did not even ask me about what I would bring to the table. They informed that they would take three weeks to make their decision, and I followed up with the appropriate thank you notes and emails. I got no response, even after contacting the recruiter, I got a lot of empty promises about them contacting me later in the week. Apparently, they do not like to tell someone no, or follow up. This says alot about the organization, and I don't think I would be a good fit within it.
