Interviewed Mar 2010 (took a day)
Interview process is relatively informal. Typically meet members of the group, give a presentation and discuss the opportunities for work. Campus is nice, the scientists interviewing are typically laid back and the interview process is pleasant. There is not much scope for negotiation of the salary.
Other Details
I applied In-Person and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Lemont, IL (took a day)
This position was with the software group of APS Engineering Support (AES). I was interviewed on-site by the team leader and with the three software engineers working under him. The interview lasted about two hours. The position primarily seemed to require Java GUI programming. The interview was a highly technical one. I was asked over 50 software development related questions covering basics of Java, C++, C, GUI development, GUI design patterns, software engineering, multithreaded programming, and Linux. Essentially, if you indicate that you possess a skill that could be of use, you can expect to be quizzed on it. None of the questions were too advanced, and I believe the interview was fair. The I was then given an opportunity to ask questions. The interview was professional and cordial, and the people were nice.
Six weeks passed and a decision was still not made, at which point I became frustrated with their ineptness and withdrew my application.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in Lemont, IL (took a day)
A typical postdoc interview. A phone interview with the group leader first to get more detailed information on educational background and experiences. The on site interview is about 3/4 day. It consists of several one to one session with staff members and other postdocs in the group, and a presentation that is open to everbody in the laboratory. So there may be people outside the targeted research group at the presentation.
One to one session is about 30 to 45 mins for each person. The topics includes work arrrangement, lab environment/polices/rule, life style and interests, etc. Overall, the one to one sessions are informal and full of chances for interactive communications.
There are many cases in Argonne that the on site interview is spared when the background is a good match. This depends on the group leaders' personal preferences and style.

No negotiation during the process because the compensation for this position is standarized in natioanl labs according to education and previous work experience.
