Interviewed Aug 2010 (took 4 weeks)
I applied online--for a new store opening in my town. Had never heard of it but was called and invited to visit another location that wasn't far from my home to speak with a visiting HR person. I did. I gave her a resume and did a brief question and answer session. I was impressed with her and the look of the store I visited. She set up a telephone interview for the following week with a regional manager. I completed that phone interview and was told I was a very good canidate---then nothing happened for a few weeks--then the new store manager asked if I could come in and meet him at the new location..I did and he hired me.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took a day)
Started as several phone interviews, & then followed by a face to face interview. Once you finished the personality test, skills test, background check, and drug test, you wait. Once the job is offered, you go through extensive product and sales training to get into the store and have management tell you the total opposite.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Louisville, KY (took a day)
I took a very long personality test and then was called and met for a one-on-one interview. I sent a thank you note. I never heard from the Manager. I left several messages over the course of 10 days before I finally reached her. She said she had not interviewed enough people to make a decision. That was 3 weeks ago.
We discussed that I was over qualified for the job--but, I am transitioning and was interested in this new potential and thought I might transition to full-time if it was a good fit. If it was not a good fit, I was perfectly open to hearing that. I have never had a one-on-one interview and then no follow-up. I found it incredibly unprofessional as well as rude

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Denver, CO (took 3 weeks)
The initial interview felt like I was beneath the manager and apparantly alot of people come out feeling that way. She seemed nice but repeats herself 3 to 5 times. It took about 20 minutes to actually sit down, which in some cases I've seen a half hour. I followed up with phones calls to keep on the store about being hired. The whole process was about 3 weeks long. The training was a couple days and then you are on your own. Most of the people were great. Just becareful, its sales.

Negotiation Details
You are not able to negotiate wages at all. It sounds like you are getting $11 and hour plus commission, however, its about $8.65 an hour. Now that they have knocked out a few percent it will be harder to make money.

I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Personality Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 2 days)
Applied on-line and got a call within two days to set up an interview for a part-time sales position. Initially met with Store Manager who was very friendly, forthcoming and realistic about the responsibilities, citing the sales staff responsibility to clean the store, unload truck and load purchases for customers etc. I have worked on straight commission before and this position was not much different, so I was not surprised.
Initial interview went well, just the usual questions, more a meet and greet session. I received a call for a second interview for the next week with a district manager. I found this manager was very unprofessional.
Interview was conducted in the middle of the sales floor with customers shopping and nervous sales staff circling but afraid to approach the District Managers interviewing space. District Manager made snide remarks about the current staff’s poor sales performance and their poor client follow through. Pointed to two members of staff and remarked that they would be gone soon due to their poor sales.
Outlined main responsibilities, which are sell, sell and sell. Arhaus requires staff to collect names and phone numbers of shoppers for follow-up calls, so you need to persuade shoppers to give you their contact details. All pretty typical for full commission sales, but seemed they wanted “used-car salesman” sales aggression.
Interview soon became uncomfortable as a customer sneered and rolled their eyes in disbelief at District Managers audible comments. At first I thought it was a test of “how not to act in front of clients” but then decided it is just a lack of client consideration. District manager claimed to be a long-time employee so guessing those are the qualities that are desired at Arhaus. Neither clients nor staff is important.
It was soon apparent that ours would never be a match, but interview dragged for well over a half hour. District manager regaled me with tales of great sales, promises of big commission checks, then shared sob stories given by clients looking to back out of their purchase. Seems nearly all the upholstered pieces are considered “Custom order”. Once make your selection and sign, the sale is final, regardless of sickness, job-loss or anything else.
