Interviewed Dec 2011 in Sheboygan, WI (took a day)
I emailed a resume and was contacted the next day. Within 2 days I went for an interview. At the interview I asked lots of questions and got all lies. I was told that there was low turnover and that there was lots of room for advancement. I was told that I would have a 30 days review and that I could get a raise then and then at a year. There was no 30 day review and noone has ever seen one and come to find that I am one of the lowest paid there-lucky me. It took weeks to find out my pay and my hours and had already completed all paperwork and training to be told that I was only getting $8.50 an hour!
Negotiation Details
Could not negotiate because they did not have the numbers ready and I was told that they were trying to get me the best pay rate they could. Lots of run around and by the time that I was told I had been there 2 weeks and was not in any position to argue.
Other Details
I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Jul 2010 (took a day)
I actually was hired and training a day before my interview! They needed someone to get trained so they had someone to cover for another worker getting ready to go on vacation. I was a volenteer and they offered me a paid position, I accepted and started being paid at that time. The next day I filled out the actual application and had an interview.

Interviewed Jan 2011 (took 2 days)
Interviewed with the regional RN and RD at the house. Both appeared and spoke very professionally and polished. It took one hour and started on time. The interview was more of a conversation beginning with a description of the job and then interview question/answer. I was given almost all information pertaining to the job including reimursement for mileage and cell phone use. Also was provided informaiton regarding the demands of the job at times. This was accurate.
Second interview was phone with the HR director. On time, very professional. Nothing unusual.
Candidates: Ask about turnover in the house and with other houses in the region. This includes trifecta team members as well as house staff. Ask about the management style of the entire regional team and their success.
RN candidates: You are more valuable than what this company pays. If you accept the position, be cautious of your time and keep your staff very well trained so that you don't get so many calls off hours.
Find out the success of the RD before you accept the position. If they are not running the house right, you will be in a real mess and hate your job.

Negotiation Details
The WD salary was set and the company would not negotiate. RN's, this job pays below market value and there is no negotiating at all. You are likely to have your hours cut as well.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 2 days)
Applied and received a call from HR in a day - had small overview interview with this person. She was nice but seemed...scared to answer many questions..kept side stepping..ok, 2nd phone interview set up for a few days later w/the upper management. I waited 20 minutes past the time they were to call - nothing. I had other plans for the day so I went on to my errands. Checked my phone and 25 min AFTER the scheduled time a missed call showed from what I assume was the upper managements phone. I understand people run late and things happen but this is not, evidently, some that is unusual as other reviewers have written this. I was willing to give this company the benefit of the doubt even though the reviews here and a few other places are NOT good...as well as a few hiccups with staff that made the paper in Ga. But, if my time isn't valuable to them it's valuable to me so I have NO plans to try to contact anyone about this missed interview. I was present and accounted for - they were not. Their loss.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took a day)
I applied to position online through the ALFA careers website. I included a link to my LinkedIn profile and was contacted via LinkedIn via friend request later that day. The next day the recruiter called to set up a phone interview.
I prepped by using glassdoor, company website and general google search, in conjuction with prior industry research. Recruiter was grateful for my interview prep.
When the time for the phone interview came, I didn't receive a phone call. I waited 15 minutes then called. She apologized and we started immediately.
Asked general questions about my interest in the job and my background, including ideas that I had for the marketing function of the community. Also asked how I felt about being involved in all aspects of the community as they have smaller number of staff and sometimes required to fill in on any position as needed.
She also asked about other opportunities that I have with other companies and prior experiences.
I wasn't given the opportunity to ask questions, so I asked for it before we hung up. I asked about the ratings and reviews on glassdoor. The recruiter mostly sidestepped the question and claimed that all companies are negatively biased (which is true), but she did directly admit that the "micromanagement claims are true and that the prospect should be okay with and prepared for that environment.

Since the interview was done by the Residence Director & management team, it was very pleasant. Should have checked here first. The people I worked with were great, but the wear & tear from upper management is unbearable.
