Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 2 weeks)
The interview process was very laid back. The first interview was 1:1 where he let me do most of the talking by asking questions about the company, the position, etc. Then he asked me a few standard questions like what is my biggest weakness, name a time I encountered a problem with another employee and how I fixed it, and a few others. I then got a phone call a week later to come in for a second interview. This interview consisted of 2 different panels of 2 people and then meeting with the regional vice president. It was again laid back but a little more formal than the first interview. Each panel asked similar questions, although the questions this time were a little more difficult. For example, if someone wrote a book about you, what would it be called and why?, how do you handle stressful situations?, if another employee was slacking off on his/her work and it was causing you to do more work, how would you handle this?, etc. Overall the interview I thought went well, but I wasn't offered a position at this time.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Charlotte, NC (took a day)
A-O got my resume from the career office at my university. I received a call saying that they wanted me to come in for an interview. Before the interview I had to send them an unofficial copy of my transcripts and complete several forms for background checks. I sent those to them within a day or so and they called me back with more information on the interview (day, time, what to bring, etc.). They followed up with an email saying basically the same thing. Once I got to the office, where the interviews were to be taking place, I waited with two other applicants. I talked with the receptionists and I came to find out that instead of a 1:1 interview, which I was expecting, it would be a panel interview, 2:1 with three separate interviews. I was a little surprised but thought there was nothing I could do about it now. Each interview lasted roughly 30 minutes and each applicant rotated through the three conference rooms. An hour and a half later I left. Interviews went well. They asked a lot of behavioral questions and some specific questions off of my resume.
Interview Questions: Who is your role model and why?, Tell me about a time when you had competing deadlines and how did you handle them?, What is your greatest strength/weakness?, What do you know about Auto-Owners?

Interviewed May 2011 (took 2 days)
I did two 1-1 interviews on two different days. The first interview was with a local Claims manager. It was surprisingly less formal then I thought. It felt more like a meet and greet. He asked about my education and experience, and asked 3-4 standard interview questions. (Angry customer, delivering bad news, and 2 more that I can’t remember). Then he asked if I had any questions. I was invited back for a second interview with the regional manager. It was a bit more formal then the first, but still very relaxed. He also asked about education, experience, and a few interview questions. (Investigated a problem?) Then he asked if I had any questions. The first interview went well, but the nerves got the best of me in the second, my guess was the added formality.

Interviewed May 2011 in Lansing, MI (took a day)
There are no job listings on the company's website, so I created a general application and received a phone call a couple months later asking if I could make it into an interview the following week. Once arriving to the company's headquarters, I was whisked away to the Actuarial department and interviewed with 6 managers and directors in 5 total interview sittings, each lasting approximately 30 minutes. The interview process from all the interviewers was relaxed. They asked me about myself, I asked them about themselves and I explained why I would be a good fit for the position. There weren't any behavioral questions.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Duluth, GA (took 4+ weeks)
Met initially with the UW assistant manager and the UW supervisor. Most questions were regarding my experience and how it could apply to the position. I would suggest reviewing the company website to have a grasp of Auto Owner's position within the insurance industry.
After meeting with the first two interviewers for roughly an hour, I then spoke to the regional VP for another 45 minutes. This portion of the interview revolved around my experience and my perceptions about the insurance industry as a whole.
Auto Owners seems like a great company with some very talented personnel working for them. I was most impressed by how many employees stay with the company for an extended period of time.
Although I feel that I nailed this interview, the position was ultimately offered to a candidate with prior underwriting experience.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Lansing, MI (took a day)
I applied online and was invited, by a very straight/robotic HR person, to an interview (duration not mentioned). Wore a suit, got there on time, interviewed with 3 managers (about 1/2 hour each), each in a different IT division. They asked me general background questions, about my aspirations and future plans, why I'd like and be good at the job, and some simple situational questions (describe a failure you had..., describe a problem you had..., describe a stressful time you had...). We talked about the position, the IT department, and Auto-Owners in general. Two made sure I was ok with learning COBOL, and when I asked the 3rd he said because it's old technology that some don't like to learn, but it's used in most big businesses. He also said they're using more JAVA (I think) now. I was supposed to meet with the VP of something but he was a no-show, so my 3rd interviewer just toured me around IT as we looked for him and told me about the company. Everyone was plane and nice. IT is a cubical farm. Shirt and tie required. No technical questions at all, but one did show me COBOL when I asked about it... that's it.

Interviewed Aug 2010 (took a day)
I applied online on the Auto-Owners website. About a week or two later I received a phone call from an HR person requesting to set up an interview for later that week. I was not really interested in the job so I did not put too much effort into researching the company or position. The company has a very professional, corporate atmosphere, suit and tie are required every day.
My interview lasted 2 hours, in which I had 30 min interviews with 4 different people from various areas. There was nothing too difficult about the series of questions I was asked, mainly about my skills, experience, what are my strengths/weakness etc. They do a lot of work with java, of which I had no experience but they seemed to care more about my ability and willingness to learn it.
