Interviewed Jul 2010 in Jamaica, NY (took 3 days)
I went for the first interview with a store manager who looked like he was from India or Pakistan. He was asking me if i knew about what which auto-part is made for which is something that car mechanics are supposed to know and not those that sell parts or manage a parts store. He also told me that the company forces employees to clean the premises including the bathroom, which i couldn't believe how a company that has so many stores all around the country can be so cheap and treat it's employees like that.
At the second interview i met with the district manager which was from India and she verified the cleaning of the premises and she also told me that as a store manager i would have to work for ten hours per day Monday to Friday and one Sunday of the month. It sounded really irrational to me the ten hours per day. And for what? They pay their store managers 45,000$ per year which is far below what they are supposed to pay. At a point she said it herself that i was more that qualified for the position and even over qualified.
At the end of the interview she said that she would forward my resume to the human resources manager so as to schedule a final appointment for the technicalities like the salary.
He never called me which was for something that i couldn't figure out. When i tried to call him his secretary wouldn't transfer me to him and the district manager, who by the way never answer's her phone because apparently is hiding from people, she wouldn't call me back.
I am positive that my case was stopped by the human resources manager due to a reason that has nothing to do with my qualifications and my proof for that is that both the store manager and the district manager who are relevant to the job said that i was more than qualified. The reason why they wouldn't take my calls is that not hiring someone for irrelevant reason's is illegal. Also even when they have the right not to hire you for something like low credit they are obliged to tell you otherwise they are breaking the law.
I do not recommend AutoZone to anyone who is looking for a job.
