Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
First to submit the resume through school online application website, then wait for the selection results. Since I was in exchange program and was not able to show up for a face to face interview, then they arranged a phone interview instead. I was asked about the technical questions like programming language proficiency, personal understanding of the advantages of certain languages, experiences on programing, software development process...

Interviewed Jul 2010 (took 3 months)
Contacted by Company recruiter after posting CV on job board. Initial interview with recruiter resulted in several telephone interviews being set up with US based team several weeks later. Mostly traditional interview questions with some behavioral type questions. Two weeks after conclusion of set of telephone interviews, I was contacted with outcome - invited for face to face interviews in the UK. During the face to face meeting, Manager indicated that I could expect an interview. I received offer two weeks later. Great company wtih interesting products. The work culture and team seem friendly and dynamic.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in San Francisco, CA (took 5 weeks)
The contract recruiter who initially found me was extremely professional and great to speak with. The interviews with the actual management was strange, and while an offer was implied, negotiations ended abruptly with a surprise agenda.
I had a lot of interviews with upper management, and no actual peers. Most of the questions I was asked were behavioral. They did not seem to know how to interview me on skill-set, which is understandable if no one had a similar role, however they could have cross-interviewed with other teams. It seemed they were in a rush and did not have time to arrange.
After the first day of on-site interviewing, they told me an internal candidate had shown up and they weren't going to continue with me. Less than 3 hours later, they said the internal candidate bailed, and they would like to continue with me. After a second day of on-site interviews, and positive reviews, I was chosen over another external candidate. We did a very in-depth background check with a lot of private information that I did not think was necessary, including parking tickets. After discussing a salary, and start date, and when the offer would come to me, the most unprofessional thing happened; another internal candidate showed up within a day, and they immediately signed with them instead. It is unclear if they actually hire based on one being the best candidate, or convenience and availability, and internal politics. I thought the experience with me was a joke to them, and an enormous waste of my time.
Additionally, through my interviews, I thought upper management was rude and disrespectful, insulting a previous company I had worked for, and talking down to me as if I was a child. The engineering staff I met with, however were intelligent, and asked great questions.
It is unfortunate because I like their products a lot, but it seems that their internal culture, politics and hiring process leave a lot to be desired. It does not seem that if one was on the team, there would be any guarantee that ones' teammates would be the best available either.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Portland, OR (took 4+ weeks)
An employee referred me and I got a phone screen. The position was social media marketing. I didn't have experience in that area but let's face it - year 2009 and most people don't really have a clue about social media marketing. They create a twitter account and a facebook account, throw in a blog if they have some more initiative, and call it their 'social media strategy'. The woman who interviewed me had no clue about social media and in fact she told me a lot of ridiculous things - like advertising through reddit and digg. Now, anyone who has ever been on these boards will know that advertising through them will get you nowhere. Anyway, she rejected me outright.
You know the company doesn't have much of a future when the person interviewing you doesn't know her stuff and when you are shocked by the incompetence of half the people working there.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in Manchester, NH (took 2 weeks)
The interview process consisted of 4 separate phone calls:
- one from Autodesk's internal recruiter to set up an initial interview with the hiring manager
- a one-hour interview with the hiring manager
- 2 follow up interviews each an hour long and each with a small group
The schedule (date, time, conference line number and passcodes) were all coordinated by Autodesk and communicated to me by email. All interviews followed a similar format: introductions, an explanation of the interview structure, and the actual interview questions themselves.

Interviewed Sep 2008 in San Francisco, CA (took 1+ week)
Initial phone screening by HR, then phone screening by hiring manager. Then 3 in-person interviews at the job site (included hiring manager). Then 2 additional phone interviews (they wanted to move fast because job req was going to be closed if they didn't hire someone). Nice office in San Francisco on Market St near Ferry Building. While I was waiting in lobby / coffee area, I saw a couple informal meetings taking place on the fly, so seemed like an interactive / energetic atmosphere - a young / hip type culture that you'd expect for San Francisco.

Reason for Declining
Offer wasn't strong enough to warrant changing jobs and taking on risk of starting at new company in this economy (i.e. first one hired, first one laid off). It would have been more of a lateral move for me -- even though this position would have had one direct report, that also makes the job more risky during a layoff period. I'm glad I didn't accept the job as since this time AutoDesk has had lay offs, and I'm sure its performance has suffered due to the bad economy (industries like the Auto Industry aren't doing well). Also, in talking to former employees, it sounded like the group I was considering joining may have been disfunctional with lots of politics and drama between team members (i.e. the old-school crowd that had been at the company a long time vs the newer generation of employees). Linked In was really helpful in connecting with former employees to get their insights to help me make the decision.
