Interviewed Nov 2010 in San Francisco, CA (took 3 weeks)
Recruiter contacted, screened me. Passed me to someone from HR who I did a phone interview with. Flew to Chicago for a face to face. Had another phone interview with a VP who actually told me how hard it was to work there. got the offer three days later. I wouldn't consider any of this process difficult. I have been through much more difficult interviews before. Autonomy is pretty desperate for sales people to work there. Take a look at their website and notice that they have positions for AE's available, and no locations. That should be a red flag. They turn over a lot of people and there are no territories, so it doesn't matter where you live.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 2 months)
The interview may be in person or on the phone or both. Your background is going to get you 80% of the way there. If you have worked for a respectable company in the past you have won most of the battle. The big battle is after you have joined the company. You have 6 months to prove your worth or you will be fired.
Here are the questions you need to answer for yourself:
-Do I really need this job that bad?Really, have you run out of all other options? This should be your last resort.
-Can you work for a company that will expect results in less than 6 months with little support?
-How much BS can you put up with? Autonomy will treat you like a child and you will hate it. Can you live with this weekly?

There is no negotiation. It is a take it or leave it approach. They have aggressive sales plans that no one will make compared to the market. They will remind you they pay you "handsomely" for your wage.

Interviewed Apr 2010 (took 3 months)
Recruiter was selling the role as much as the HR rep. Many interviews with many different people including HR, VP Sales, COO, CEO, Chief Counsel. Oddly, I never interviewed with the manager that I ended up working for. Could not tell me specific products I would sell for the company, only that "I could sell everything". Reality was they are never sure where they will put the new individual has accepted the offer. I am convinced they use a probability based hiring process (i.e. hire 100 people, 3 will be successful but the revenue generated by those 3 is enough to cover the hiring, training expense of other 97). Offer came 3-4 weeks after they told me it would. A bit frustrating to say the least.

Negotiation Details
They would not negotiate on any aspect of the offer. Take it or leave it. They are not afraid to say "no". I suspect this is due to my "probability theory" of hiring.

Interviewed Apr 2008 (took 4 weeks)
Hiring at Autonomy is done by the CEO, which is extremely strange. You literally don't meet the person you are going to report to until after you are hired. Autonomy is a churn and burn type of place for sales people - they hire as many sales people as possible, and don't care if you make any money or not.
