Interviewed Sep 2008 in Pleasanton, CA (took 3 days)
Interviews were very well thought through. Specific case studies were provided to see how the individual would respond in each case.
Subsequent interviews with senior management were very impressive - management is very clear about direction, strategic hires, culture, work environment and importantly where they are and where they want to be.

Interviewed Apr 2008 (took 4 weeks)
Hiring at Autonomy is done by the CEO, which is extremely strange. You literally don't meet the person you are going to report to until after you are hired. Autonomy is a churn and burn type of place for sales people - they hire as many sales people as possible, and don't care if you make any money or not.

Interviewed Sep 2009 (took 1+ week)
The interviewer asked a lot of questions that were word for word from a site that can be found by googling Java questions. The questions more or less tested one's ability to memorize specific corner cases about Java syntax and less about one's ability to reason out algorithms or one's programming methodology. The way the interviewer described the position seemed like it would be a difficult job with long hours and a lot of projects, but the position was definitely a good place to learn a lot of experience from different technologies.

Interviewed Jun 2007 in San Francisco, CA (took 2 weeks)
I was contacted by a headhunter who worked with Autonomy regularly. Over the next week I had two phone interviews with two technical managers. They asked basic - medium difficulty technical questions. One thing that struck me as odd was that they asked if I were at a client site on their laptop and I wanted to work on their server- how would I do it. I said on Windows I would RDP (Remote Desktop) in and on Linux I would telnet in. This seemed overly-simplistic to me, but they asked it. Then there was a one-on-one interview in person with the technical manager. Then after that, someone in the position I was applying for gave me a printed test, Mainly code fragments and asked me what thecode did. It was jsp, which I was unfamiliar with at the time, but if you can read one language you can read most languages. It was pretty painless, but then again I was fairly technically-capable.

Interviewed Nov 2007 in Sunnyvale, CA (took 2 weeks)
Came to office on 33 separate occasions. Interviews varied from trivial (what are you looking for in this job) to fairly complex. I later learned that a number of the questions came from the Microsoft book. There were also a couple of questions related to the technology used, but none that required previous knowledge of Full Text Indexing. Questions: how to compress / OR bit vectors. What is LSB?
