Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 2 days)
I applied online at their site. Had to fill out a personality test. A few days later, I received an email saying to call their recruiting center for the next step. That was a screening call that lasted about 5 minutes. Was asked when I could come in for a face to face interview. That was scheduled for the next day.

Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 1 week)
Applied online, I was called by HR and did a phone screen, and then given an interview date. Showed up and did a one on one interview, then immediately took a skills/aptitude test, and was offered the job pending drug and background check. Was there total of about four hours. The interview was straight forward, not really any behavioural questions, mainly just questions about work experience and in particular sales experience. I think it was more of an opportunity to feel you out and see if you had potential to sell. There were dozens who interviewed that day and only four of us were hired, however I soon learned that Budget has over an 80% turnover rate. They are constantly hiring and firing people, because it is so difficult to reach their sales goals and the job itself can be stressfull dealing with disgruntled customers frequently. Due to the bad economy there is no shortage of applicants, so they essentially keep a revolving door of employees going. At least its like that in Orlando MCO. Shame too because I saw several employees with over 20 years with the company quit in disgust.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Portland, OR (took 1+ week)
I was contact by an Avis recruiter. I had one phone interview and a few days later had enough. Each one gave me the impression that the interviewer was in some sort of call-center. They responded to my questions with generic answers or flat-out told me they didn't know.
A week later, I went to the airport administration building for a one-on-one interview. I was suppose to be interviewed by the regional manager but he was on vacation. Got interviewed by one of the many managers instead.
Told me the job was mine as long as I passed a drug test and had a clean driving record. The rest, sadly, is history,

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Washington, DC (took 3 weeks)
The very first time I applied with Avis, was online back in July 2011. Once my info was submitted I received a call the very next day, from their human resources’ office to review and verify all the information that was submitted online and to conduct an over phone interview. After doing so, the man told me “at this present time we have no available appointments for you to come in and interview at this time”. So I said, oh ok. It wasn’t until the end of September 2011 that I received a call from a human resource repetitive, asking was I still interested in a Customer service position. I told her yes until she told me where it was, which was in Philadelphia. Once she told me that I told her, that’s ok, never mind. The Rep told me to call within seven to ten business days to see if the locations could be switched. After a day or two and many phone calls to their office to see if the location could switch to another closer location to me, in another state mind you, they told me no, I would have to reapply and start the whole process again.
After starting the whole process again, I applied for two positions instead of one. The first one was the Customer Service and the 2nd one was Rental Sales Position. I called the corporate number to conduct a on the phone interview for the CSR position. Since I applied for two position, she told me I could do only one interview on the phone at a time. So I had to call back the next day to conduct the RSP interview on the phone. For the RS position I had to do two on the phone interview and a personality test online.
Finally, after 3-4 days of the phone interview, I was schedule to come to have a 1:1 interview for the CSR position. After taking the online personality test, about 2 days later, I received another phone call to have a 1:1 interview for the RS position. On both phone calls, the HR rep told me to arrive 30 min before my scheduled appointment and to bring two copies of my résumé and something to write with, just in case I had any information to write down during the interview.
The day of the interview, I arrived 30 min early as requested. A young lady greeted me and asked if I need any help? I told her yes, I was there for an interview. She asked me who doing my interview, I told her I wasn’t for sure, the Avis HR rep didn’t give me that information, all they gave me was the time and location. The young lady went to the back and returned telling me to have a seat and someone would be with me momentarily. After 5-10 later, I was greeted by a woman telling me what was going to happen during the interview process. I asked her if I could have two applications, because I had two interviews at the same location for two different on the same day. She told me the manager would conduct both interview at the same time and to just fill out one application. At first sight, the application looks really thick. However the first two sheets were basic application info. The next two sheets were your basic check yes or no questions about your driving records/ background information.
After filling out the application, I was escorted into the back to speak with station manager. After greeting me, she told me that she wasn’t expecting me, nor prepared to conduct a 12:00 clock interview. Well, thanks be to God, that I listened and printed out my conformation info that was sent to me by email, which I gave to her. Never the least she conducted the interview for the RS position. She basically asked about every job that I ever had in the past 10 years even if it wasn’t on my resume. She really wanted to know what sales experience that I had. After 10 min the Sales Manager was asked to sit in on the interview. He asked me some basic questions and told me about what options I had as far as pay, which was either base pay with commission or 13.00 hr. I told him base pay + commission. He asked me why, I told him because of the earning potential. After talking back and forth to both of them, out of know where she ask me to sale her my necklace, I said ok and started telling her some basic things about the necklace and why she should buy it. Another conversing back and forth, she said I like your style and smiled. Overall I think the hiring manager was very straight forward, all she really wanted to know if you could do the sales job or not. After all was said and done I was offered the position and asked to take a urine test by the following day.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Orlando, FL (took 4 weeks)
I applied for a job with Avis Budget in early July and was called about 3 weeks later for a phone interview. I was very excited about the job and did a lot of research on the company.
At the end of the phone interview I was told that Avis / Budget wanted to take the next step and schedule a 1:1 interview. I was given the date by the phone interviewer which happened to also be the same day as their job fair. I was told to arrive 1/2 hour early and my appointment was at 10:30. I did arrive a half hour early. I was handed a booklet application and sent to a room FULL of applicants. I filled out my paperwork and returned it to the check in table. I was told to go back to the waiting room. I sat there until after 12:45. During that time only 2 people from the waiting room were called out for interviews. Lunch came and went. They had olive garden brought in but not for us.
When I was called in I was ask about every job on my resume and I was ask behavioral questions to which the interviewer’s response was "excellent". She asks me to describe myself in one word. She asks me to pick an item in the room and state 2 reasons why she shouldn't buy it.
I was then given a personality test and put in another room with the new hires from 2 weeks ago to fill it out. For sales people I have to say that most if not all of the new hires appeared as if they couldn't close a door let alone a sale. The make up of the room with only one exception was Latino males in their 30s and 40s.
After the personality test I was put back into the holding room and left there until almost 4:00 pm. Just before 4 I was called into another office where a man asks me if I had any questions and I ask 3. I went home and sent my thank you cards.
I received an email letting me know they had decided to go with a different candidate. I logged into the Avis Budget website a week after the interview as they were advertising again for the position. In my profile it stated that I was "not competitive". I have done very well in commission based sales for 15 years. I have extensive experience in the quick sale. (7 min or less)
I believe most of the hiring decisions are based on the personality test. I would advise anyone who is applying to do your home work on how to answer each question.

Interviewed Jul 2011 (took 2 days)
After the intial phone interview, I was told to meet the "hiring manager" at the airport location. I was greeted by a lady who asked my name and followed by saying " you are early"...I was there exactly at the time required! My suspecion that no one really had a clue about the interview grew as the same lady asked an individual to interview me and the other person declined!!! After about forty minutes I was invited to a room when a young man asked me some questions....he went on to say he needs to get a supervisor to continue....he came back after ten minutes with a sheet and asked me to study it and then tested my selling skills!!! He finished by saying the job is evenings (all nighters) and weekends since the system is seniority based and that the supervisor that was supposed to interview me will look at my resume and call back if interested...Frankly I am shocked by ow disorganized these people were. I feel bad for the poor employees!!!

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Seattle, WA (took 5 days)
Went in Filled out application then sat with a assistant to insure it was filled out properly then interviewed with a sales manger. The manager asked questions related to sales and customer service, and expected answers with examples from previous employers. It was pretty straight forward and simple nothing to major. At then end of the interview she seemed to pause and ask if i had any questions but i knew she was waiting for me to ask for the job, come on its a sales job if you don't have the balls to ask for the job you might as well get out. She then asked me to return in 45 minutes for a second interview. The second interview was a little more difficult, he asked questions related to my best and worst sale. Then we did a mock sale for a customer so he could get and idea of how i could handle objections and follow their sales process. After that he said he would like me to take a personality test, and said i could leave afterward. I took the test and was prepared to leave but the assistant asked me to wait in the lobby. I waited and received a third interview where I was offered the position contingent upon me passing a drug test and background check.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Tampa, FL (took a day)
They were having a "job fair" for an open position for rental sales agent. Their website said candidates MUST apply online before they show up for the interview. So, I filled out the long application online, and was frustrated to see that once I got there, every one had to do the exact same application again with a pen. So, that took the first hour I was there. Eventually, I interviewed with one man--very basic stuff like "why this company / business?" After about 15 minutes with him, he said he'd like me to interview with someone else, so I went back to the waiting room.
After a while, another man came to interview me, and he was a little more intense. He seemed to question my recent employments (after changing careers). None of his questions were that off the wall, but he just had an intense feel about him.
Then I went to see a 3rd guy, who gave me this assignment. He gave me around 5 or 6 pens of different sorts, and the exercise is that I'm a pen shop owner and he's going to come in and be a customer, and I am going to sell him a pen. The point being to see how I am with customers and selling.
Was not ready for that one, but they do give you 5 or so minutes to game plan, so it wasn't bad. But it would've been nice to know about beforehand.
