I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Axcess Financial.

    Interview Details

Easiest interview I ever had. Questions were simple, they provided an itinerary and we followed that for the entire morning. The only glitch was a supervisor who was to be there had to disappear that morning so we had a substitution at the last minute.

    • Nothing unexpected, just an issue with one person more interested in their phone than the interview. I wrote it off as an emergency at the time.   Answer Question

I had 3 sets of interviews- one phone and 2 in person. It was a good mix of levels, very insightful and frank discussions. I would advise anyone interviewing, should do their research, come well prepared and with questions.

5/8/2014 – My phone Interview notes with Hiring Mgr.

2 yr as Sr Mgr of PMO at Axcess, responsible for methodology, process, practices, build to PMO team to deliver projects. IT dept located in Lima, Peru, 200 QA, BA, infrastructure PMs, employees of Axcess, not offshore type, work daily with them. 30 IT in US supporting QA work, architecture, PMs, etc. PMO is liaison between Peru and biz here.
Sr PM position open but now Axcess also need infrastructure program manager with recent resignation, which xxxxxx now has to handle, as well as PMO, just this week.
Sr PM role for corporate systems focusing on SDLC, packaging, functional applications, integration of packages at POS, etc.
In US, Axcess has 4 related PM roles, 3 Sr PMs on the functional side: e-commerce, POS, and corporate, where they just divided their functional systems. There is 1 infrastructure role at the Program Manager level, a level above a Sr PM.
Xxxxx meeting to refine the Program Mgr role: managing projects on the infrastructure side. Axcess making major changes across the board on both infrastructure & application sides. Axcess started as small company: spreadsheets, outsourced solutions, etc., but now taking biz to new level, higher tier applications, infrastructure support.
They are replacing global payroll, global GL solutions, POS and in 12 months, replacing e-commerce presence; completely new architecture & delivery.
Infrastructure side: 1200 stores in US, 600 in UK needing new network, new upgrades, running MS 2000(?) servers, a lot of upgrades needed, also storage devices. Alot needed on infrastructure side. XXXXX had infrastructure PM in US that started on application side but pulled over to infrastructure, visa- versa. But with initiatives to keep up with application and production support so Axcess can scale the business and be live & grow all their systems – a lot of projects going on in this area.
Initially, Program Mgr (?) role would be a lot of PM work, very hands on building schedules, managing status. Overall, their environment very hands on at all levels, even at executive, very engaged, very detail oriented. Infrastructure and field services work on PC, printers, etc., in the stores. Also with data centers, network components: work to get them up to speed with CEO expectation for technology & strategy. Put all into a project with clear visible transparency since so many things being replaced. Initially, a lot hands on PM work to ensure they can deliver projects.
Process | day to day role on projects | other PMs on project | size of teams daily activities | how work was tracked | planning | scheduling | contractor or employees | what do I enjoy or good at? Build out, Telcom, data center, deskside / desktop.
They are building out a lot of processes and tools. Nothing was real formal before XXXXX arrived at Axcess. 3 yr ago CIO rebuilt IT dept. 2 yr ago, Lima, Peru group added, new approach. The use a project tool like Daptiv. Config’ed a lot thru it now: requests, new enhancements.
Convert them into projects; build charters, resource allocations, $ rates, capital back accounting, reporting, time sheets, change requests, etc. MS project for scheduling used. Milestone reporting, stop light reports, budgets, risks, issues, weekly, baseline, variances.
2 dedicated PMO resources in Peru to help with purchases, support methodology, tools, builds process –PMBOK. PMO a fast ship, deliver financial services IT products, constantly balancing delivery with regulatory governances with speed to deliver. Trying to go with a desire for structure and discipline, but not as heavy handed as with larger corporations.

    Interview Questions
    • Interview started 20 minutes late (okay, things happen, I'm flexible).

Neither interviewer (2) seemed prepared, only asked very basic questions: what are some of the lessons learned? Name a difficult situation & how did you handle it? What do you like to do? PM, Technical, Team building? Distant, not really listening. Took a few notes.

    Web Copywriter Interview

    Application Details

I applied online – interviewed at Axcess Financial.

    Interview Details

I received an initial screening call where the interviewer confirmed the information on my resume and inquired into my interest in the position. I was told that I would hear back shortly to schedule another interview; however, I did not hear back until about a month later. I completed another phone interview with the head copywriter that included more specifics about the position and my interest in the position - it went well. I was then told that I would get a writing assignment shortly, but I did not get it until 3 days later and it was from another person at the company who I had not spoken with previously. The "short" writing assignment was to write a campaign - website, landing pages, banner ads, etc.- and they wanted it returned to them on a holiday. I did not feel comfortable with the writing assignment as it seemed that they were trying to get me to write the initial copy of a current project. When I said that I couldn't complete the assignment due to my holiday travel schedule (which was true), they never contacted me again.
