This was an internal hire, switching from one contract to another and one position to another. I had to compete against others, but I was the favorite as I exceeded the quals and the customer had requested me, if possible. There was a presentation, several interviews, and a background check for a security clearance upgrade.

Negotiation Details
Negotiation for salary was handled internally. My leadership fought for a significant raise, due to my professional experience and academic credentials as well as relocating from a low cost to a high cost area. The salary we asked for was on-par with all of the data for this area. HR at the Org level denied it and reduced the amount 50%. Again, the salary issue in BAE Systems is terrible.

I was a known quantity and so the vetting and technical interview were rather a formality. The technical interview lasted about 30 minutes and I didn't really do that well, but got the job. I was asked about which management platforms I had experience in and what familiarity I had with Windows server and McAfee products.

I met with the team and hiring manager. There were a lot of "Tell me about time..." questions. The people I met with were very nice. They wanted to not only find out how I could help the team but wanted to get to know me personally. I got a call a couple of days later asking me to join the team.
