Interviewed Aug 2011 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (Germany) (took a day)
I initially applied online, got a response from HR in about 3 weeks and made an appointment for a one-day interview. The interview day started from 8:30am and lasted till 3:30pm including a 20 min research presentation and a lunch break (1 hour). There were a total number of 7 interviews (all one-on-one) with different persons from different research groups within the same division and about 50 min each. They asked mostly personal questions regarding my past experiences and special activities and not so many technical questions in general. It was a very long and dense interview day, so be prepared and have enough patients and energy. Don't forget to breathe and smile!

Interviewed Dec 2010 (took a day)
The interview was conducted extremely unprofessionally. The Human Resource personnel was just an extremely young girl (23-25?) who may have thought too highly of BASF's position in the world to understand humility.
The entire interview seemed to be a "free-for-all talk-you-down" session where I had to endure a string of demeaning and insulting comments. Questions included highly personal ones which would have resulted in the company getting itself sued if asked in the USA. Some questions may not even have any relevance to the post at all. The interview went so bad that I almost stopped the interview halfway and walked off. This easily ranks as the most unprofessional and insulting interviews I had ever been through. I wonder if the HR department had any form of training in interviewing techniques at all. Or perhaps, I was their first guinea pig.

Interviewed Dec 2010 (took 3 days)
Very nice interview, I was not really convinced when I applied online but they were very responsive and immediately replied that I was on the shortlist but that the hiring manager had no time to see me.
First interview was with the line manager and his colleague which were both very nice, afterwards I was asked to do an online personality test.
I was asked to interview on director level which was also very spontaneous but informative at the meantime. This director did throw me a bit off with some oddball questions.
Afterwards, I received very detailled feedback in the form of a phone call from the line manager who was very pleasant and explained me why I was not selected for the job. In addition, they offered me to refund my travel expenses occurred during the interview process.
