Interviewed Apr 2012 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 4+ weeks)
Submitted the application online and waited for a month to get a phone call from HR "we... ... ... ... (6 sec pause) would like to bring you forward". Received email detailing the names of the panel but did not mention the interview format etc. Attended the interview but arrived early, had to wait at the lobby outside the security entry to the building and watch over 500+ people walked in and out.
Started with a 1.5 hour skill test - supposed to work together with the interviewer as your peer. Did most of the core bit, but with some help from the interviewer (I think you are supposed to ask for help and this is the concept of peering)
Followed by a 2:1 interview with 10+ standard scenario competence questions. Evidence of this and evidence of that. Pretty standard.
Received the rejection email 2 weeks later.
Have really no idea what do they really expect from a junior web developer. I was aiming for the more senior role before submitting the application as I believed I was surely more than qualified for this. Never mind, they are the people to make the call and sometimes you will have to just accept this.
Disappointed, really.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 6 weeks)
Online application via website although they have been know to use agencies too.
A number of interviews, min of 2 people for independence purposes.
It would be useful to match your experience with the core competencies. Do provide loads of examples no matter how obvious. The recruitment process is a tick box exercise and includes a role play with an internal client, practical assessment and quite a long personality test. All applications are reviewed against each other.
The organisation is a mono-culture environment and outside of the creative broadcast areas; thinking outside of the box is not encouraged. Relationship management not ability is the key to success; the organisation is siloed, bureaucratic and slow.
On the plus side it's a privilege to be part of a broadcasting organisation that impacts pretty much everyone in the UK in some way and respected worldwide. It can be quite innovative in its programming (not forgetting commissioned indies), technology, is more commercial than one would initially appreciate and has complete commitment to providing the best viewing for London 2012 across a range of platforms.
