Interviewed Jan 2010 (took 4+ weeks)
I have heard nothing but horror stories about working for this company but I needed a job at the time so when I received an email from their recruiter I allowed myself to be open to the opportunity.
I initially had a phone interview with their human resources director and then was asked to come in for a formal interview with the recruiter as well as with a very senior member of the design team. At this meeting we went over my portfolios, resume and had a candid conversation about my background/experience and how I might be able to help meet their needs. At the end of the interview I was asked to do a small design project, which in my experience as a designer (over 15 yrs) is not uncommon and so I agreed.
We agreed that I would have it completed for them in 2 weeks and we scheduled the second meeting. Escorting me on my way out the recruiter mentioned to me that in the 4 months that they had been interviewing for the position this is only the second time that she had seen them ask someone for a project and to take it as a very good sign. I did and so I worked very hard on that project.
When the time came for the second meeting I was very much looking forward to showing them what I could do for them if hired...the voice of the recruiter still echoing in my head, "take it as a very good sign." So, imagine my surprise/disappointment to discover that I would only be meeting with the recruiter and not the person who had assigned me the project. The recruiter looked the project over and then asked if I would be willing to reschedule our meeting and leave the project so that it could be reviewed for the next meeting. I had all sorts of little red flags popping up and screaming at me to just get the hell out but I needed the job and in the spirit of being flexible I said, "Sure". Famous last words.
Surprise, surprise, surprise. The following meeting was cancelled. They still had my project so I emailed. The email wasn't returned. They still had the project so I emailed again and again and again and again. Not one email was returned. I finally decided to use legal jargon regarding the work as my intellectual property and my rights regarding the work....lo and behold an almost immediate email response saying that they were trying to locate the work and would get back to me asap.
Long story short, they never found my project. Maybe it got legitimately lost, maybe it got thrown in the trash or maybe it got sent off to China to be produced... who knows? I certainly didn't so I did what I thought was right and sent them an invoice. Which 6 months and many emails later they paid. (applause)
It doesn't take a brain scientist to figure out that they didn't offer me the position and it doesn't take one to figure out that I would never accept a position from them if it had been offered.

They just string you along. Horrible horrible horrible.
They offered me an entry- level salary when I have many years of experience in the industry. They offer the lowest salary possible.. ridiculous.
They were not nice, didn't seem professional at all, rude.
The person who interviewed me didn't know what they were doing!

Interviewed May 2011 in Vernon, CA (took 4+ weeks)
I was initially contacted by e-mail and approved through the HR Screening process. I was scheduled 2 weeks later and they cancelled on me 2 hours prior to the interview. I followed up and they advised that they would reschedule for a Thursday at 2pm, but never gave me a confirmation. I called and e-mailed to follow up and they contacted me the following week (past the scheduled date) to advise that the hiring manager was out of town. The next week, they asked for my availability. I never received a confirmation and suddenly they called me to ask why I didn't show up for the interview. They never confirmed a date nor time. Reluctantly, I ended up meeting with the hiring manger and he asked a lot of questions like, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?"

Reason for Declining
I felt they were very unprofessional, did not have their act together, and the pay was low.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 5+ weeks)
It was a long process, at first, recruiter phone interview, local market panel interview 10 days later then 1 on 1 with regional and phone interview with VP of stores. The process seemed a little longer than others in my past. Very diverse group of people, so I couldn't begin to tell you about the co. Culture, because I got a different take from each person.

Interviewed Jun 2010 (took 2 weeks)
Pretty straightforward interview process, phone interview before they called me in, after which there was a little quiz about Fashion and then they did a 1 on 1 interview which was the final round. The phone interview covered basics, where did you work before, education, experience, etc. The quiz was orally done before the 1 on 1 interview and was a couple questions like "difference between handbag and clutch" easy stuff. The final interview was the 1 on 1 and it was more specific questions about what skills I had and how I felt about certain aspects of life.

Interviewed May 2010 in Vernon, CA (took a day)
I actually interviewed twice, the first time, I responded to a job posting for a specific design position, which at the time of the interview I was informed was incorrect. The Director who interviewed me wanted me to go through the interview process of showing her my book and go through my work history and experience, before she would reveal what she was looking for. After I complied, she then told me that she was looking for something else, but could not define it, but thanked me for my time and sent me on my way. Huge Red Flag #1 (misleading interview, very frustrating for applicant)
I was contacted by the company again to interview for another design position which opened up. I agreed to go, even though the first experience didn't go so well and I didn't have a good feeling about it. Huge Red Flag #2 (do not ignore your instincts, if it doesn't feel right, then it's probably not right)
I was interviewed by the same person who interviewed me the first time. She informed me that she liked my work based on my online portfolio and book, and was looking to hire 1 person for this position who would report to her. She said the position title was either going to be an "Associate" or an "Assistant" designer. These are two different positions with very different pay scales, work definitions, and status. She said she was not sure what the title would be. Huge Red Flag #3 (interviewing applicants for a still undefined position, because this Director did not know what she wanted)
Okay, so this is where insult meets injury. The Director informed me that in order to be considered for this still undefined position, she asked that all the candidates do a graphics project for her. This project was to consist of 2 concept boards, with two different themes with a total of 8-12 pieces of artwork aimed for a major retail market. It was to be done within a few days. This was not a freelance work assignment, but a request for FREE WORK done by all graphic design candidates for this undefined position. Huge Red Flag #4 (From experience I have learned NEVER do free work, unless it's for a charity, and doing free work to be considered for an undefined position is extremely insulting and a huge waste of time. This Director apparently feels entitled to make these demands, this shows me her ignorance, and is a big sign of disrespect for the designer's time and effort, and strips the design process of it's value. It's apparent she has no respect for her employees or any type of understanding of the graphic design process.)
Last but not least, she was speaking very negatively of the previous designer who they were trying to replace. Huge Red Flag #5 - (Don't bad mouth ex-employees, this is yet another example of disrespect)
Based on the bad interview experiences, incompetence, disrespect, and bad vibes. I couldn't imagine what it would be like on a daily basis when they are already familiar with you. I would NEVER work here, my soul would die.

Interviewed May 2010 in Ontario, CA (took 2 weeks)
She first asked us about the what we know about the company & what type of things can we take from BCBG learning experience. She had told us the three type of women that comes into bcbg and 1 out of the 3 she described she sent us out into the store to pick the outfit and say why we chose it.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Vernon, CA (took 1 week)
The recruiter could see from my resume I didn't have the type of experience they were hiring for. She told me the salary range and I told her that it was below my current salary. I was already uninterested due to horror stories I've heard about working here. A week later, she called me and asked if I could come in just to meet the Marketing Manager and perhaps discuss other higher-level opportunities in the department. I indulged her and came into the office, which is in a rather unsavory part of Los Angeles - Vernon is pretty gross. The BCBG office isn't too far from a sausage factory.
The Manager didn't seem to be on the same page as the recruiter, because she kept asking me questions about the original position, and didn't mention any other potential opportunities in the department. Rather pointless experience. The company seemed filled with young girls and just didn't seem like a very professional environment.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Los Angeles, CA (took 2 days)
I went through a phone interview screening with someone from Human Resources and was asked to e-mail some of my recent work examples. I was then asked to come in for an interview at their Headquarters in Vernon, CA. I met with two people from HR who were very informative and friendly. They looked over my portfolio and discussed what I was looking for and what the director felt I would be a fit for. I was then asked to prepare a special project and come back for an interview with the director. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the interview and was not given the opportunity to reschedule. They told me they had many positions open and one they had been looking for six months. I feel they were very honest and straight forward about the positives and negatives of working for their company. They didn't sugar coat things, which I appreciated.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Vancouver, BC (Canada) (took a day)
If you're fashion and sales driven, this interview will be a breeze for you. Make sure you come into the store as sharp looking and as fashion-forward as possible. Right off the bat, even if you're just there to hand in your resume, you'll be halfway into the door. The interviewer will ask the usual questions about your assets, "how would your best friend/last employer describe you", etc. As with any interview, answer with the type of store you are in and the type of answer they are looking for. They will ask you to describe your personal style and how you are a fashion-forward individual; I'd suggest just being honest with this, though keep in mind that the store's name is BCBG (bon chic, bon genre) and it might help mentioning that in your answer as it would show some previous research on your part.

Once the job was offered to me, they became very controlling of the scheduling process. I came in asking for a part time position as I have a very limited availability due to my personal situation - but they were not accomodating at all. If anything, the interviewer tried (for about 20-30 minutes) to convince me to work five days a week, available from open-close. It was...quite the experience.
