Manager Government Relations at BMW

No Offer – Interviewed in Washington, DC Jan 2013 – Reviewed Feb 15, 2013

Interview Details – I applied through linkedin and got invited to a first interview with HR 2 weeks later. This first email was very detailed informing me about the whole process , including the names and titles of the people I would eventually talk too if I managed to go to the next round.

The first intreview with HR was conducted via phone and it took a bit more than 1 hour. The HR manager walked me through the company´s operations in the region and through what was expected from for the job. Afterwards I was prompted to walk the HR manager through my cv in order to explain how my experience was relevant to the post I was applying for. Finally I was asked questions related to my character, work style, family situation and accomplishments.

Software Engineer at BMW

No Offer – Interviewed in Munich (Germany) Nov 2012 – Reviewed Jan 19, 2013

Interview Details – There was an initial phone interview for 1.5 hours pertaining to C++, OOP and Machine Learning. The interviewer had a FAQ sheet with him and was more or less reading them out. The interviewer helped and led me to several answers on which I had stumbled. He took an additional 25 mins to explain the structure of the company and the teams in it. This left a very positive impression about the organization.
The phone interview was two weeks after I had applied with them online on the comapany's website.

Further to this after a month, the HR invited me to attend a personal interview at Munich.

(a) The first round comprised of a 15 min presentation of a technical topic of my choice, and an additional 15 mins of Q&A.

(b) The second round comprised of writing a C/C++ code on a white board. I was asked to write a program which identifies right angled triangles from a given set of integer co-ordinates. Then there was OO Parking Lot question. There were three interviewers who were very friendly and not at all intimidating.

(c) The thrid, fourth and fiffth rounds comprised of meetings with team leads of the six working groups. It comprised of general questions like:
     (i) What did you do to prepare for this interview?
(ii) Which are the projects that you would like to work on free time?
(iii) A lot of discussions about Car infotainment, Maps, Traffic Jam detection as that is the main part of the work
(iv) Where else I had applied, and why did I want to join this firm?
Again, this was extremely polite and kind.

(d) The last round comprised of meeting with a senior person from the management and HR. The interviewing pattern in the last round was intimidating and was undoing the good job done by the other interviewers.

Two weeks later, they informed that they could not offer me a position at Munich, but could consider me for another set of interviews at their new site elsewhere in Germany.
Given the impression from the final round of interview, I further withdrew my job application with them.

Interview Details – The Recruiter got my reference from an ex-colleague and discussed the Job Description with me and explained the profile details. After that he indicated that he would forward it to the prospective organization. After about 15-20 days got a call for a Technical Interview. After a gap of another 15-20 days got a call for the HR round and after a further gap of about the same period appeared for the final interview by the President.
