Interviewed Oct 2011 in Shenyang, Liaoning (China) (took 2 days)
For the phone interview, the logistics manager is a guy from Germany and he asked questions like, my internship experiences, the problems occurred during the internship, as well as why I'm willing to work back in China. It was a pretty short one, because he was on his business trip in Germany at that time.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Munich (Germany) (took 1 week)
After I applied online, within 1 week I was contacted by HR manager for my diplomas and certificates, and 2 days later I received the invitation for the interview. I had 1 weekend to prepare, and I asked them what kind of interview I am going to have, and they said: Mostly technical but a little bit of everything.
Interview was very very technical. It lasted for 1,5 hours, and I was asked some questions from logistics and optimization and many many questions from C++ and object oriented programming.
I was disappointed to learn that I was interviewed by a person who has no experience whatsoever, and worked in BMW only 6 months. My expression was that the guy just had a set of questions in front of him, and answers, and if my answer was not exactly as it was written there, it was considered wrong. Just to be fair, I must say that I failed to answer most of the questions correct (at least in his understanding).
Another downside was that the guy that interviewed me was from my country, and there is a high competition among us abroad, so no wonder he made it as difficult for me as he could (that's how I felt).
So to conclude: if you need to prepare for the interview with BMW, repeat all the concepts of OOP, read FAQ on C++, and be ready for all the standard tricky questions from C++.
If your background is not from computer science, repeat some basic definitions from your field. My mistake was that I prepared to talk about complex algorithms and optimization problems, but I did not pay any attention to initial definitions.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Munich (Germany) (took a day)
I was first interviewed by a school official at my college and then she put me in contact with my future boss at BMW who interviewed me over the phone. We had a very general sort of interview, with no quantitative parts. The interview was more a way for them to decide what I should work with, they were pretty much decided to give me a job already because my 1:1 interview with the school official was good and I looked good on paper. Being able to conduct at least part of the interview in German is a great plus since German car companies tend to be pretty conservative about that sort of thing.

Not really, German intern salaries are generally very low. BMW paid me more than most would have. But it's a great experience.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Munich (Germany) (took 2 days)
Very organized. The interview process was very complicated, with many integral parts, however, the laid-back atmosphere did not make me feel like I was under pressure, whicjh I liked. I am not usre whether I gave them what they were asking for on the personlaity test, but it must have worked, because they made me an offer, however, for a lesser salary.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Munich (Germany) (took 2 months)
This interview was conducted totally in German, although it is possible to make arrangements to do so in English. The language that the interview is conducted in will typicall reflect the language that will be used most often on the job. Mine consisted of three telephone interviews, and I was also vetted during the first week in-country.

Pay was non-negotiable. It is an interning position, so this is typical. I was able to secure company housing at a much reduced rate from market price.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Munich (Germany) (took 2 months)
The whole interview was a stress interview. Most questions were about conflict management. No questions about my technical skills. My former impression about BMW' culture as being respectfull to each other and open minded changed during the interview to the conviction that working at BMW R&D must be horrible stressfull with permanent conflicts among the employees.
