Interviewed Dec 2011 in Houston, TX (took a day)
I was contacted by phone by this company to schedule a phone interview. I was able to schedule it for the following week, which was pretty fast. A recruiter contacted me on the scheduled day right on time! I was very impressed by her punctuality in honoring the time of the phone interview. She actually contacted me from Dallas, TX even though the position was located in Houston. I recall her being very humurous on the phone, which was way more than I would've expected. I thought it was going to be a pretty cut and dry interview, but she actually made it more personable by not only asking me questions about my experience and the position, but taking a personal interest in me. Since I'm out of state, she even asked me about why I was looking into Houston, TX. She basically made the interview so much easier and I could tell that she liked my answers because we talked way longer than the 30 minutes that the interview was supposed to last. We were on the phone for over and hour and even found out that we're both originally from similar areas. She started selling the company to me (another good sign) telling me about all the benefits of working there. She orally stated that she liked my experience and even though I didn't have all the position asked for, she thought I could make a valuable contribution to the team. Anyways, the conversation eventually ended with her saying that she would pass my information on to the hiring manager. I thought that was a very, very good thing! I was eager to see what was going to happen. She told me it would probably be after the first of January since I interviewed close to the end of December of 2011. I let her know when I could fly out for an interview and got her email address so that I could send a thank you note. I figured it might take them a little longer than ordinary to contact me since my phone interview was right before the holidays. Although I sent her the thank you note right after the interview, I waited for almost a month before following up again just to give them plenty of time. In the meantime, I never heard from them, so I decided to email that recruiter again. The first time I sent her an email, I got no response. I waited a couple of more weeks and it was well into February by this time. I tried contacting her again and this time she replied very briefly saying that the hiring managers really don't tell her anything once she passes candidate info along to them. After February ended, I was pretty sure that Baker Hughes no longer wanted to pursue my candidacy, so I moved on. However, it sure would've been nice if they at least let me know since I did actually interview for the position.

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took a day)
The interview process with Baker was fairly straightforward the first round was purely behavioral. Interview lasted 20 mins, and was asked 5 questions. The questions were based on the core values of Baker; Integrity, Performance, Teamwork, and Learning. From the interview it seemed unclear as to how they screen for candidates. It seems that the process is just a formality. I think that resume and transcripts are the main things that are looked at, for entry level jobs.
I am still waiting to hear back for the second round.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Houston, TX (took 3 days)
First, I had a 1:1 interview at my school with a recruiter I had met at a career fair on campus. A few weeks later, I got a phone call saying I had "passed" the first round and was invited to the Baker Hughes Experience (BHE) in Houston, Texas. I went in January 2012. It was a grueling mix of group work, hands-on mini tests, and listening/learning about what a career at Baker Hughes means. We were encouraged to talk to all the current Baker Hughes employees about their product line and their experience with the company. Overall, the entire 1.5 days was exhausting and extremely interesting. They gave us a chance on the last day to leave if we felt the company wasn't a good fit and that's what I ended up doing.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Houston, TX (took 3 days)
Met with representatives at a university career fair and was immediately invited to a 1:1 interview on campus a few days later. The interview was very standard, behavioral questions and going over the resume. However it seemed a bit unprofessional because the interviewer was an hour late and had people coming in and out during.
Heard back about 3 weeks later for the second round interview, which is the notorious Baker Hughes Experience in Houston, Texas. The first day (or night, rather) is a simple meet and greet with all of the recruiters and managers over dinner. Then, they send you off for the night and tell you to be up very early the next morning. Day 2 is when the bulk of the experience is- it takes literally all day (6am-3am in my case). It covers a variety of group and solo activities which are both behavioral and personal. They also bus you around to different company locations in the area so that you get a feel for the nature of the company and the work they do. It seems very laid back, but keep in mind that they are "watching" you the whole time- they want to see if you are a good fit for the company. Such activities include a case study, basic skills test (if you've ever had a chemistry lab then you are overprepared for this), and solo activities along the lines of "you have two minutes to draw a symbol that represents you." The second day is very dense and long, but if you've been through interview workshops, then it shouldn't be a problem.
The morning of the third day, you have a group presentation/skit (which is given to you at the end of the night of the second day). Then there is a panel interview, where the recruiters pick people at random and ask behavioral questions. You get asked 2 or 3 questions total (no less, no more, from what I saw). Then, they excuse you for the rest of the afternoon as they decide who to give offers to. They will either give you an offer on the spot or deny you. You have a week to accept the offer, in most cases.
The best advice I can give is to get to know all of the recruiters- talk to everyone as much as possible. Take advantage of the meals, the bus rides, or any down time- the recruiters will be around you during the whole experience. Ask a lot of questions and be involved with every activity and you will stand out.

Reason for Declining
The nature of the work itself is what deterred me. The work schedule is very unpredictable from what everyone described- long work days (sometimes 40 hours), starting and ending at random times during the day/night. The starting pay is good, and after you advance through the field engineer positions, there is great opportunity for career growth within the company. Also, the work locations are not very ideal, but that factor itself is very subjective.
