Interviewed May 2009 in Miami, FL (took 4 weeks)
I got my interview through an Employee Referral, but landed the job after surviving an interview/hiring obstacle course.
The first interview is over the phone. It will most likely be a quick 10 minute conversation and they will let you know at the end of it whether or not they are interested in considering you for the position. After this you will be part of a group interview. This is by far the most important part of the hiring process and how you conduct yourself here will determine whether or not you get the job.
If I remember correctly the group interview will take a few hours, like 2 or 3. And they want you to smile and appear comfortable. They want you to look approachable and pleasant, NOT serious.
As far as the group interview goes, its really important that you participate and speak when you have a chance. Make sure the Recruiter conducting the interview notices you out of the group. (There's about 10 people) Don't be afraid to answer whatever question the recruiter may have.
There's going to be a point where they'll ask everyone to stand up one by one and give a reason why they would be good for bank of america. Try to go first if its possible, it'll stand out in the recruiter's mind. Say whatever it is you feel is correct, and try to emphasize things like, I work well in teams, and I have 5 years customer service and cash handling experience. I feel that Bank of America has done alot to stay ahead of its competitors and it would be an amazing opportunity to work for such a successful company. blah blah blah.
Then the recruiter is going to show some videos about what its like working at bank of america and ask questions on the videos.
Just don't be afraid to talk, remember to emphasize your work experience as it relates to being a teller (cash handling, customer service, working in teams... sales experience is a plus! they love it if you can say that you have worked in sales before, or worked on commission).
The recruiter might ask you to sell them something they have on their desk, in front of everyone. If they ask you to try and sell them a stapler, just say something like, "the reason you need this stapler is that no matter how big your stack of paper is, it gives you a perfect staple 100% of the time." (or if its scissors, it always cuts in a perfectly straight line. if its a pen, it never runs out of ink) Whatever it might be, just be creative and speak with confidence like you believe in what you are saying.
There's gonna be 10 people all applying for a teller position, but they are all at different locations, so they wont be for the same exact position. You'll receive an email later that night letting you know you have an interview at a certain branch in a few days.
After you pass the group interview, they will send you out to one or two branches that are hiring and you will interview with the Branch manager. You getting the position depends on the impression you leave on the Manager. Just relax, be yourself, and answer the questions honestly and the Manager should feel like they're making a good decision by hiring you.
Bank of America is a great place to work, two weeks paid vacation, paid sick days, full medical and dental insurance, they pay up to $5,000 of your tuition per semester.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Miami, FL (took 2 months)
I applied online and qualified to do the skills and personality test. A month later I got a call from the recruiter to schedule a group interview for the following week. The group interview was not as bad as I expected, and consisted of about 15 other ppl. Mt best advice for that type of interview: TALK. Raise your hand, be heard and noticed, because the last thing u want is blend in. I got ppl in that interview that didn't talk at all until the end. I passed the interview, then I had to submit the address/employment verification form, which I did and 2-3 weeks later got my satisfactory results. I was scheduled for a 1:1 interview with the branch manager the next day, and 4 days later I got a call with an offer. This whole process was about 2 months for me, and the anticipation, I have to say, was the worst part. Overall, a positive experience.

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Miami, FL (took 4 weeks)
The initial contact came with a posting for the position. I applied and had to wait 3 weeks for any type of response. Then I received a call from an HR recruiter and went through a phone screening. He stated he would get back to me in a week.
Then he called me back a week later and stated that he was sending me a email that needed to be completed for the background check and I had to fax a signed release form to B of A Corp. Security department. He sent an addition link to a Personality Test. It had approx 220 question which had to be answered in 30-45 min.
I had completed the same procedures last year in Sept 2008 when I had applied for a similiar position. The position at that time was closed out due to the economic climate at the time. I asked if I had to complete it again and was told yes. So I completed it all over again.
Once this was complete I was called in to meet with the HR recruiiter and complete a roleplay scenario which took approx 30 min. This role play was centered around an coaching a nonperforming employee. During this roleplay a Market Leader called into the HR and listened in on the roleplay. I assume to provide feedback to HR. I was told they had other candidates that needed to be reviewed and that they would contact me.
They called 2 days later and was scheduled to meet with the market executive for an inperson interview. I went to the interview and it was a panel interview. They asked about my resume and experiences. Specific questions were "Tell us about yourself?" "What type of leader are you?" "What get you up in the morning?" What is your typical day like?". Then I was asked to roleplay again. Again it was about a nonperforming employee scenario who was not making their sales goals for the month. (It seems to me that they must have a lot of nonperforming employees or the goals are set so high that not many employees achieve them). They then asked if I was a fluent Spanish speaker and when I responded that I am not fluent in Spanish but that I knew enough to keep employees and customers in line.(the position did not require Spanish) The interview pretty much ended. The asked me if i had any questions and I responded "no" as they had already been answered. They thanked me for my time.
I did not hear anything for a week so I contact the HR rep. He got back to me 5 day after that to tell me that the position had been filled with an internal candidate. (It seemed to me that it was a waste of time for all if they already had an internal candidate.)
