Interviewed Jan 2012 in Warrensburg, MO (took 2 days)
Read most of the review on how interviews here on Glassdoor and was reluctant to go to the interview. Was worried that it would be another one of the group interviews talked so much about here. Luckily it was a one on one interview. The branch manager was great and threw out a hell of a pitch. The sales strategy sounds like it has great potential.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Dayton, OH (took a day)
I received a call from a recruiter telling me Bankers was looking to hire me for one of three positions, based on my preference. I'd read the reviews, I was skeptical, but I went anyways (hey, no job, nothing happening on a Tuesday afternoon - why not?).
Prior to the presentation I was given a packet of information including the job description. Only the sales position was included, so I had the nerve to ask about the financial adviser and management positions before the 75 minute sales pitch. I was told it would be covered during the presentation.
The next 75 minutes were a blur of "sell for us, it'll make you feel good, we help people!" I think "unlimited" and "the sky's the limit" was mentioned 20 times each. That's quite a bit for a presentation. The word "Integrity" was also used numerous times; more on that in a moment.
The rep spun his wheels telling us how good it makes you feel to "help" people. He referenced one of the excerpts from a hand out about a sales agent that, "was touched delivering the death check to a client's family, knowing I was able to help." Our rep had similar experiences, apparently. He guarantees that feeling is what makes it all worthwhile, not the money to be made. But there's unlimited money to be made, the sky's the limit!
The rep also has a very jaded view of how things work. That, or he was trying to blow smoke up our asses about how great their product is. I've worked medical billing before and recognize Bankers as not being the greatest Medicare supplement. He swore they always paid, on time, with no hassle.
After stomaching the garbage session for 75 minutes, I finally asked, "Is Sales the only entry-level position?" The answer was of course, everything goes through Sales. If you want to move up, you have to be a Sales Agent. I then asked, "Why would the recruiter tell me that a Financial Adviser and Management position was available initially?" The rep gave me a dirty look before claiming he has nothing to do with recruitment. Integrity is important, at Bankers. I guess ignorance is, too.
Save your time and don't bother with Bankers unless you want a 100% commission based, entry level position. The best part is you have to spend $325 before they'll consider hiring you - $250 for the insurance broker study materials/exam + $75 for the fingerprinting and background check at the test center.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Pretty basic. Interview with 2 people. Behavioral questions. Describe your work experience. Describe where you'd like to be in 5 years. Do you want to be in insurance? Very laid back. The people interviewing were extremely friendly and just wanted to get to know you. They were the 2 direct superiors of the interns so they wanted to know if they could work with you for a whole summer.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Hartford, CT (took 3 days)
I posted a resume on Monster.com and the next day I was emailed by a recruiter for Bankers Life and Casualty saying they had reviewed my resume and wanted to schedule me for an interview. I had never heard of the company, but as this was the only interview I had been able to schedule with anybody thus far, so I decided to go. I went, as I see many others did, expecting a one on one formal interview, and was dissapointed to find about a dozen other people waiting. It was not an interview, but rather a presentation about the company to see if potential employees are interested. I stayed for the first presentation, and am going to the second presentation the day after tomorrow to hear more. I am skeptical as it is 100% commission based, but I want to see what they have to say in the next presentation. I will post more after I go.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
Walked into the room and did not expect 20-30 other people present for a group presentation. A branch manager presented great detail of information about the company in general and proceeded to educate us about the duties of an agent, what exactly we'll be doing and how agents will be rewarded. There is no salary its 100% commission.
At the end we filled in some paper work, had a personality test and asked if we would like to be contacted again. Got called in for a second interview. Will post more details soon

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Framingham, MA (took 2 days)
This was a very vague experience to say the least. I went in expecting a formal interview but walked in to a group presentation which was a bit upsetting. After listening to a 2 hour sales pitch about the company and "opportunity" I was asked to come back for a formal interview. I must say I am impressed with the companies history and list of services. I will update my review after the second interview this week.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Edina, MN (took a day)
I was induced to this “interview” under the guise that it actually was an interview. It is not. It is an hour-long promotional speech on why you should choose to take a risk and basically start your own business with a little help from Bankers. You will need to get all of your own insurance licenses, at your own cost. The “interview” is a group presentation in one of the most-outdated and poorly maintained buildings in Edina.
When I walked in and realized that was a group presentation and not an interview, I walked back out of the group presentation room and asked the receptionist (buried behind clutter and mounds of paper, some leaning up against the wall to keep them upright) if this was a presentation instead of an interview, she in turn asked a gentleman from the office to talk to me.
I repeated my question, was this an interview as I had been led to believe or merely a group presentation? The man curtly replied, “Do you have someplace better to be?” Then he snapped, “ I don’t know you. The only way I can learn if you are worth my time is through the presentation. Tell you what, if you stay and you think that I wasted your time, I’ll pay you.” Then, he walked out of the office to the restroom.
Not knowing what kind of money was on the line, I stayed. I did not fill out any of the paperwork they give you (a full personality test and detailed profile). The gentleman who confronted me before turned out to be the presenter. I stayed anyway and listened. The presentation detailed how supposedly Bankers is the best company ever to work for (alongside really)-dream vacations and six-figure salaries await those who choose to invest their time and money to pursue a Banker’s career.
According to our friend, the presenter, he now makes more than his lawyer and doctor buddies and works far less. When it came time for questions, I asked some pointed ones.
Q: Since you travel to some many homes concerning insurance, does Banker’s reimburse for any of your extra car and gas expenses?
A: No.
Q: Do you need insurance licenses for this?
A: Yes.
Q:Will Banker’s pay for those licenses or courses?
A: No. However, if you work for Banker’s for 90 days and meet certain sales goals, “you can apply for reimbursement for the license fees.”
Q: What is the turnover rate?
A: 45% of agents quit within the first 14 months.
Q:Do they offer benefits?
A: No.
Q: Do they offer any guaranteed salary?
A: No.
Q: 401(K) matching?
A: No.
Q: 401(K) at all?
A: No.
Then, our presenter said, “So, I have ten bucks. Did I waste your time? Do you want to take it?” After an hour and fifteen minutes, he had wasted my time, but that he thought my 75 minutes were worth just $10 ($8/hour), absolutely solidified that I would never want to work for Banker’s. I probably should have taken the money, for gas if nothing else, but I politely declined and left.
Do not make the same mistake that I did. Do not waste your time with this group presentation. Google Banker’s and realize that investigations from Congress are pending and that have been universally panned by clients as a complete sham. To work for them, you would need to prey on the elderly and promise services that the BBB can verify are routinely not delivered.
No matter your desperation, look elsewhere.

Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 1 week)
I received a call from the administrator of the office that they had came across my resume on some online job site such as monster.com or careerbuilder.com and was asked to come in for a first interview. This first interview consisted of myself and up to 10 other people sitting in a conference room and being shown a presentation explaining the company and talking up their commission structure. The second interview they went more in depth into their pay structure; most of the time was spent saying how commission jobs are so much better than salary jobs because there are no limits on what you make. Me being a hopefully college grad, I happily agreed to come back for a 3rd interview where I was offered a position and paid a few hundred dollars for training and supplies.
