Interviewed Dec 2010 in Knutsford, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 days)
I've had 2 telephone interviews with Barlcays for different jobs. First one was very slick. Chap was obvioulsy used to doing them. He was professional and friendly. I was completely at my ease. He only threw me once when he asked me what was the thing about my job I enjoyed the most. I hate those generic question and went into woffle mode. The other interview was very vague with long silences. Neither were technical at all.
The face to face was more technical. Only in that they slid a piece of A4 across the table with various queries on and wanted to know the result of one, fault with the other then a couple of questions about the difference between this and that. The rest of the interview was strictly competency based. At the end I asked them all about how they performance managed and didn't like what I heard. I think this came across an why I didn't get any further.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 4+ weeks)
(1) Competency Interview
This first interview was a pretty relaxed one to one chat with a manager or head of department. He asked me competency questions base in four specific areas and explained the interview outline clearly to me before he started timing. After all this questions, I had about 5-10 minutes to ask questions.
(2) Problem Solving - Written
The second program was a problem solving exercise where a certain scenario involving Barclays Bank was given to me and expected me to come up with an action plan with relevant supporting reasons. The action plan was to be written in a bulleted form on the booklet given to us.
(3) Problem Solving - Presentation
Immediately following the written test and a short 10min break, the HR lady gave us another piece of information followup to the previous case. We were given 15min to prepare a short presentation on A3 papers.
(4) Lunch/Networking
Usual buffet style lunch which you wouldn't really eat much because you are talking to the interviewers and other candidates.
(5) Ability Tests
The SHL reasoning test is just a replica of the online test.
(6) Group Exercise - Case Study
Each of us was given a information sheet on a country that Barclays was intending to invest into. We were then given 5min to read our individual countries before having 3min to present its opportunities and threats to the rest of the group. After that is a 20min group discussion to select the most feasible country and state supporting reasons.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 6+ weeks)
On campus interview. Short-listed candidates invited to one day at assessment centre at HQ in London. One day assessment consisted of one interview on background, two interviews on skills, group case study and presentation, Q&A with senior executives, and drinks and networking. Need to understand current issues with industry, economy and the firm. People at the firm are very nice and open. The work culture is more laid back relative to other banks.

Initial phone conversation with the hiring manager. Face to Face interview with Hiring manager and Director. Further face to face interview with 2 stakeholders. Prepared for competency based interview at second stage but they did not do that - third stage did include some competency based questions.
The security at the head office is a night mare so allow a lot of time to work your way through it and needed to go to 2 different receptions desks too
