Interviewed Feb 2011 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 days)
Online application - standard competency and knowledge based questions. Online tests - verbal and numerical reasoning. Phone interview was mostly competency based and pretty formulaic but the interviewer was very polite and kept the conversation going smoothly.
The assessment day consisted of a trading game which was quite fun, and a series of 1 on 1 interview depending on which desks liked the look of your CV. Each interview was different and ranged from very technical through to a chat about my hobbies. Similarly each interviewer was very different, some were off puttingly rude and made a concerted effort to be awkward and others were very nice. The HR team organising the day were very helpful. Also the put you up in a hotel if you require accommodation which is a big bonus.
All in all it was very well organised, contact was very regular and the process moved along at a reasonable pace.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in New York, NY (took 2 days)
Very Casual. My first round interview consisted simply of a conversation about myself. There were no technical questions or anything like that. Some fit stuff such as "Why do you want to work here" or "what position do you see yourself holding here in the future." Take all of this with a grain of salt because I go to an Ivy where the interview process is notoriously more conversational.

Very nice. First she went over CV questions, general fit questions. Then continued on with more specific questions. Asked if I had 100k how I would invest it.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 3+ weeks)
1st stage is a phone interview for general fit and competency questions, and maybe some markets overview questions. 2nd stage, obtained by passing written application, numerical and verbal tests, and 1st stage was an assessment centre. Interviews with different desks in half hour slots (people had between 3-8 interviews on the day), and at the end of that day, or early next week, you found out if, or how many, offers you had.

Negotiation Details
Very inflexiblie - insistent on knowing which banks you interviewed at, where you were interviewing and what you were thinking. Very aggresive in nailing you down to Barcap.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Tokyo (Japan) (took 4+ weeks)
I was expecting some serious technical question. But he didn't really ask any of that.
We were just like chatting with no purpose. He introduced their recently launched team in Japan and some painful communication problems they had with Japanese. And very general behavior questions, also some of my previous experience. To me, all of that actually are meaningless.
I think I did a good job, the only reason I got rejected is because another person has a more skillful conversation skills...

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Singapore (Singapore) (took 2 days)
The online application form took some time to fill up as I did not have any prior experience regarding applying to such organizations. After that I was invited to take a standard psychometric test.
Shortlisted candidates were invited to an assessment center where we had to take part in a group exercise. The first part involved a task called time prioritization where we were given a list of 20 choices and had to select the top five. After that, we had to justify our selection to the assessors. The second exercise involved a case study, where we had to prepare a presentation in under an hour. A few hours later we were notified of our selection for a final interview. The interview consisted mostly of some behavioral questions, questions about the 2007-2009 financial crisis and some standard HR fare, ie, why do you want to work in Barclays Capital, and so on. The technical round was mildly challenging and I was asked some basic questions in C++, C# and Java.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 2 days)
It was all very organized and smooth. The recruitment team was excellent and the interviewers were very friendly and helpful. It didn't feel like a scary environment, where you get nervous that you may not get the offer. The first day, rather evening consisted of a nice reception with drinks and then a proper three course meal with employees from Barcap, some of them, who were the interviewers the following day. After the dinner they told us to have a good night sleep and that we shouldn't be nervous, everything will be fine.
the next day the hole assessment center kicked off with a nice breakfast, then the individual interviews. I had three individual interviews: one technical, one interpersonal and one prioritizing exercise. There was a group exercise combined with a group presentation.
Throughout the day they provided refreshments (tea/coffee, fruits, etc), and there was a very nice filling buffet lunch.
Overall it was an amazing experience, and I am glad that I got the offer!
I would suggest this internship to others!
